Coaches Hot Seat Watcher

I know a lot of people may not agree with this and think I am crazy (which I probably am but that's a different story) but I think Jimbo is done at A&M after this year. I know people always point to the insane buyout he has. Yes it is huge but this is the state of Texas we are talking about. In Texas football is huge and there are many high-school stadiums in Texas that have cost upwards of $40 million and these are not for private schools either with Legacy Stadium in Katy being $70 million. If people in Texas are willing to spend that much on high school football it stands to reason that A&M has boosters who would be willing to cover Jimbo's buyout. Plus with Texas coming to the SEC in 2025 , A&M knows that they need to be on top and Jimbo is not taking them there.

Something is going to happen one way or the other. If he doesn't lose his job by the end of this season, he will probably be fired by next mid-season.

The buyout isn’t as big of deal as people make. They owe half of it in the first 30-60’days after the firing. Then the rest is owed monthly.

My guess is they don't actually have someone with the power to fire him just yet lol.

On a serious note, prolly certain he is gone, but school is likely to let AD sort it out when they make hire?
I could see a lot of people turning down Auburn and Auburn finally offers the head coaching job to Jamie Chadwell who will take it.

Yeah. I know he didn't hire him at MSU but Mullen had some time working under Cohen. I think Mullen is decent coach, but he would also be a stable hire. While most fired coaches are set in their ways, I think Mullen is young enough to evolve some things. If Auburn gets down the path of multiple coaches saying thanks but no thanks to the job, it will be interesting to see if they opt for another mid major hire that is likely doomed from start given the turmoil.

Regardless, I would not be shocked if all roads lead back to Gus lol

Honestly, they need a stable hire. Similar to what we needed after Butch.

If I was them, I would target in no certain order Luke Fickell, Dan Mullen (Cohen connection), and then give a ring to Gus. I think any mid major hire is going to be deer in headlights taking that job. Will get paid, but might be in over their head.

As we are all finding out, some mid major coaches are ready to make the next step. I think most coaching hires are a crap shoot.

All major programs should not make the mistake of hiring a coordinator with zero head coaching experience.

Correct. But in Heupel's case, the biggest advantage for him was the hire of Danny White. That hire effectively ended the old regime. That and Randy Boyd not winning the primary for Governor are prolly the two most influential events to get us where we are now. Thank goodness. I don't see Auburn's inner turmoil ending quickly.

Beldar is living proof of that

Butch Jones soon.

Could be! My cousin's boss's neighbor's veterinarian who lives outside Loachapoka said she heard somebody called the Dollar General the other day asking about various ingredients used to make Barb's chip dip.

There are a good number of exceptions. Depending on where your line on "major program" is

Smart.
Pittman had never even been an OC.
Lanning doing well with his first year.
Ryan Day
Lincoln Riley at OK.
Cincinnati made it to the playoffs with a first time HC and had been successful before the playoff.

Other P5 programs with first time HC success.
South Carolina happy with Beamer for now.
Stoops is the best coach Kentucky has had in my life time.
Wasnt it TTech school that hired a HS HC?
Elko at Duke is doing a decent job.

Heck we are saying Auburn should hire back a guy who was a first time HC

It's all a crap shoot. I dont know if going the coordinator route is much worse than anything else. Plenty of guys with HC experience and success flame out at a different school. Even guys with National Titles cant keep their jobs.

We'll see. The team is very unusually young (no seniors), and so I think it would be unwise to spend the money, but of course it ain't my money.

I just wonder if someone like Smart or Pittman could have rebuilt TN after the shape Pruitt left the program?

Kirby Smart, Dabo, Mullen at Miss State... I don't disagree with you on the premise, but it's a crapshoot and it depends more upon the situation you are stepping into. Some coaches don't necesarily need HC experience to be successful. HC experience comes more into play if the program needs to be rebuilt. A program in decent shape can take a shot on a coordinator who can take them to the next level (Fulmer, Kirby Smart, even Dabo to a certain extent- Clemson wasn't good, but they weren't suffering terribly when he stepped in). A program that is suffering needs someone to steer the ship into safer waters.
