Coaches Poll Released

Good to see you GT. I would say that this year is up in the air, and you are right, those are suspect rankings. Unfortunately, Auburn War Eagle Tigers are my sleeper this year.

They could make a nice run no doubt. I thnk Ut will have a sleeper type year, and finish second in the east.

Behind Florida who has the toughest schedule EVER, or behind UGA with no QB? Tons of questions in the East.

Behind Florida of course.

I think Florida could even finish 3rd, depending on how well they keep their composure on the road. They have the most talent in the East by far, but that schedule is absolutely frightening.

23rd in the coaches poll, huh? Hmmm...I guess the jury is still out on whether Fulmer has lost his touch. At least among his peers.

We should have expected no less (or is it more?). Last year, the Volunteers were the sports equivalent of Evel Knievel's first shot at the Snake River Canyon: Fizzled on the ramp up, and had to pull the chute halfway across.

Anyhow, it's way too early to make any sort of accurate projections. Last year was proof-positive of just how much effect the intangibles (in this case, pronounced "team unity" and "firm leadership") can have on a team. Despite what was universally considered to be a very strong Vol team, top 5 talent, and a potential BCS challenger...well...you know the rest of the story.

If you think back, we all kinda got our warning in the UAB game. It was a close game, much closer than it should have been. Thinking back now, I remember wondering if UT was really as good as the preseason rankings, or if maybe they were overrated. By the end of the Florida game, I knew the answer. We all did, didn't we? We might have spent a portion of the remainder of the season in some form of denial, but deep down, we all knew.

One of you mentioned it in an earlier post, and truer words have never been spoken: Momentum is everything.

Cal will tell the tale. The remaining games will just serve as verification.

Go Vols.

Who was it the other day question me by saying this guy had an agenda?

Here he is in the Top 25 thread, and in the first sentance, ANOTHER shot.

As I have said many times before, thats cool. I support his right to do it, but don't tell me he doesn't have an agenda.

I have said for months, I expected 18-25, so 23 is about right.

Moi? Agenda? Perish the thought.

Well...hang on...maybe I do have an "agenda", if that's what you label a firm opinion. But, isn't that what we do here?

Agenda. That's a cool word. I like it.

In any event, thanks for supporting my right to do it.

I'm gonna go work on my agenda.....

You are WWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too sensitive Mrs Fulmer :D

The best I remember in that other thread I asked you to show me where he took a shot, which you refused to do, which just supports my opinion that you are entirely too sensitive. Lighten up bud. We're ALL Vols here (well most of us anyway), but that dosen't mean that we have to hold hands and sing kumbaya.

I have no need to lighten up, but you may wanna open your eyes sometime. You see things much more clearly that way.

Ah, I don't know...maybe I did take a shot. I've fired a few salvos here. Perhaps not all of them were well-aimed, but all were honest. I am, for the record, a lifelong, diehard, rabid Vol fan. Which leads to diehard, rabid opinions on those same Vols. Top to bottom. I'm well aware of the fact that my opinion(s) might not find favor with everyone here. So be it.

If I DO have an agenda, it has to be that I hold PF accountable for the Tennessee football program. Every inch of it. He makes CEO money; I expect his corporation to do well. Consistently.

I'll try to lighten up on PF. I'm sure Spurrier will pick up my slack.

Go Vols.

You don't need Spurrier to pick up the slack, there are plenty of like-minded Vols around here to take care of that.

You have a serious need to lighten up. CPF, as the leader, is responsible for the product on the field, and we, as the customers who have invested our time and money, have the right to critique the product that we recieve. If you choose not to critique that product, that is certainly your right, but everyone who offers a criticism is not taking a shot. Saying that CPF has lost something is not a shot, it is an opinion, and one that quite frankly is supported by the past few seasons. You are the one who needs to open your eyes, because quite frankly, you are still living in 98. Having said that, I am the first to say that I think CPFs past record has earned him the right to turn this thing around, but I'm also the first to say that the team today is nowhere near what we had ten years ago. Can he get it back to that state? Only time will tell.

Edited to say that I personally hope that CPF does turn it around. I would like to see him as the coach for several more years. In the end though, the program is more important than the coach.

I certainly hope you're wrong about that, but you're probably right, at least until 28 Oct :dance2:

Yeah...I gotta tell you...watching Spurrier get his a** waxed almost every Sunday (in the NFL) was a true joy for me. There's no arguing that he's an offensive genius..heck, he offended me every time he opened his mouth. I cannot BEGIN to tell you how much I was looking forward to his return to Neyland Stadium. I had dreams of another Georgia Tech - Cumberland score. That game hurt. Bad.

I'll settle for a big time "chicken plucking" in Columbia this year. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I used to live in Charleston, and every year, there was this huge thing between Clemson and South Carolina. The "game phrases" they came up with were hilarious. One year, Clemson had "Clemson University...we do chicken right". South Carolina's response was...well, it was unrepeatable here.

Tough year ahead. Tough schedule. Tough fans, with tough expectations. We'll see.

Go Vols.

Coulda swore this was a Top 25 thread.

Blood Runneth- You must be selectively reading my posts. I have posted on this site that I am not happy with 5-6, and that I'm not even happy with Peach Bowl losses to ACC mid pack teams. I however do know that I can be unhappy without personally attacking Fulmer or blaming him for every single thing that goes on in a 500 mile radius of Knoxville Tennessee. If you don't like me taking up for Phil do what Hat "supposedly" did, and Ignore me, but I will continue to take up for Phil on a personal level whenever I feel he is being unfairly attacked.

Just to throw some more talk of the actual thread subject matter, does anyone know when the AP is coming out?

I have read your posts, and know where you stand. I have no problem with you taking up for Fulmer. We certainly need a few people on here who do. I'm simply trying to point out to you that not everyone who makes a reference to Fulmer's system, or levels a criticism of the team or coaching staff is attacking Fulmer personally. Criticism is what one would expect after last year, because the coach is ultimately responsible for the success or failure of the team.

Having said that, I hope and expect that most of the criticism will die down after Sep 2, when we kick the crap out of the Berkley Bears :dance2: :dance2: :dance2:
