Coaching Carousel rumors, memo to Coach Cal

Very bold prediction, wildman. I actually agree, but find your reasoning lame at best.

What's lame? Even Dick Vitale said that Memphis is going to continue to make the NCAAT every year because they are in CUSA ,and Calipari is getting the last laugh at the Big East for not taking them. If Dicky V said it, it must be true.lol

Hmmm!!!! Let me read this again. Nope, just as I thought. No where does it say the Tigers weren't a good team. It says they win more games because of the conference they are in - see RPI schedule strength. No where do I compare them to the Vols. If Georgetown had played that schedule they would have been in the NCAAT. If all you guys really think the Tigers were that good this year then enjoy your snakeoil. I will state it again, "CALIPARI'S NOT GOING TO KENTUCKY. HE LOVES IT RIGHT WERE HE IS".

You stated he's afraid of the competition, which would explain why he schedules such a pretty good OOC.

And say what you want about this year, but most whining about Memphis is about them the past couple of years. I'd say they were pretty freakin' good last year.

And no they didn't make it as far this year, but I can't wait until making the Sweet 16 is a disappointment at UT.

Again I'm not saying they aren't good. Gonzaga and Syacuse are the only rated teams on the schedule this year. Soft. Soft. Soft. Where are the big name teams?

Ummm...Gonzaga and Syracuse? Those aren't big enough? Are you only counting ranked teams now? And by that I guess them scheduling us is "soft"?

I assume you see the UT schedule as weaker.

Answer this. How is playing a Top 10 OOC schedule because your conference is weak different than playing a weak OOC schedule because your conference is strong? UNC was 5-2 against Top 50 this year. Memphis was 4-2. Yet, UNC is assumed to have played a tougher schedule. Please explain this.

I don't want to oversimplify this, but 5>4.

I realize this, but talking heads, fans ,etc. act like this is a huge difference. It isn't. If Memphis has played no one this year, then UNC has played no one +1. OU will romp the Heels and expose them for the frauds they are, just like KU did last year.

Just how much confidence do you have in this OU romp?

Also, could "romp" be elaborated upon? What do you consider a romp?

This thread is spectacular, by the way.

If UNC are frauds then what is Memphis? (people who live in glass houses….)

Watching UK fans devour Travis Ford would be very fun to say the least. I still cannot figure out why so many of the connected media people in Lex insist that Cal is very interested.

They're getting people to watch their newscast or read their column by telling the audience what it wants to hear/believe.

How about following the entire discussion instead of jumping in at the end.

1) I have been following and posting in the discussion since last night.

2) How much discussion did I need to follow to respond to the bolded sentence? What do you think I missed in that sentence?

The key word in the blog was "fluid.'' Grant had the offer on the table from Alabama since last week -- but he was waiting to see what Donovan would do.

Florida was going to hire him if Donovan made the jump to UK, which UK obviously thought he would......that's why they said they'd have a coach in place by Monday.

My guess now is it's Travis Ford time -- but only after options No. 1 and No. 2 said no.

I got good sources close to this one....the situation changes....that's why I put it in a blog and not a news story.

Billy Donovan to UK was not a done deal -- but the UK people thought they could get them, and Foley was going to be ready.

Bama got a good coach in grant -- VCU has a great rep for developing strong coaches. Good basketball state.

Let's see if the Oklahoma coach takes a ton of money to go to Virginia after the season....and see where Billy G. ends up.

I would guess Okla or Okla St.

At the risk of being accused of "harassing" a Real Live Working Journalist again, this trend right here is about the worst thing that's happened to sports journalism in recent years.

When the Real News has to turn to this faux-blog stuff in order to stay relevant, you know that within about three years we're all going to be skipping the imprimatur of Scripps-Howard entirely and just going with whatever Justin Groves and his ilk happen to be doing. There are probably 20 guys on VN with anonymous usernames whom I'd consider to be a better source for information right now than the guys who work for the KNS.

Example -- hey Griff, what can you tell us specifically about the negotiations between UT and Butch Davis? Why didn't that work out?

Everybody on this board takes for granted information that never appeared in the KNS or its website. Why wasn't that in any of the KNS writers' blogs, if nothing else? And if the best place for that kind of information truly is anonymous "idiots," then why should we bother with the so-called authority of the newspapers anymore?
