A Harper hire looks like a bigger risk. Kelly has settled in nicely at Mo St, and it's a great mid-major program. But she's never coached in a P-5 conference or had success recruiting at the level needed to be a perennial Top 10 program.

The ACC isn't considered a P-5 conference?

(Enjoyed your post, btw).

Back atcha! lol

Are you sure that you want Walz because you think he's the best fit for Tennessee, or is it because he's the candidate that most tickles your naughty parts?
Jeff Walz is by far the best candidate for Tennessee. FU for that last remark and you're going on ignore:mad:

It's beginning to feel like some of you guys have a bit of a man-crush on Walz. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And it would certainly explain all the negative critiques of Holly's wardrobe and mannerisms.

lol

Carry on.

I cannot deny this. lol

Thanks for playing along. You win the thread! :D

I guess I’ve been around too long, and have experienced too much, to not have a good understanding of what makes some of these folks tick. There are several men who’ve had a great deal of fun throwing homophobic barbs at Holly for her looks, her wardrobe and her mannerisms over the years, and then have the nerve to come on here acting like giggling schoolgirls crushing on the cutest boy at school.

There’s often a very good reason for that, but I won’t go into it.

Whoops... Meant to say "never coached successfully in a P-5 Conference." Nice catch.

A lot of us will root hard for Kelly if she gets the job and have reasonable expectations early on. But I'm not sure the majority of LV fans will be patient for long or have reasonable expectations.

Harper had to be interviewed -- no surprise there. But there'll probably be others, as well. All we can do is see how it all plays out.

I disagree OP. Because, there were many faithful UTLV fans on here calling for Tyler Summitt to get this job before he ever even went to LATech. Those
are some saavy fans.

Replace “saavy” with delusional.

Women’s basketball (especially Lady Vols) is a whole different game. This is the type of program that expects to win national championships... and when the program doesn’t get to a Final 4 within every 3 years, you are going to get fired.
The real question is if the last 4 years resemble a “failed coach hire”.
Let me explain this. When Dean Smith from North Carolina men’s basketball team retired , they hired a long time assistant Guthridge. He was really good his first years and then retired after 4 seasons and then they hired someone but he got fired within 4 seasons too. Next up? Roy Williams where he was winning at KS.
Same with Kentucky. Tuby smith got lucky, but soon he was gone. Gillispie lasted 2 seasons.. next up? Calipari where he was winning at Memphis .
Either way, TN will get a head coach proven to be a winner sooner than later. (Elite 8 status at least every season )

The reality is that Phil Fulmer probably didn't talk to anyone becides KellIe Jolly Harper. I have huge doubts whether she will succeed as Tennessee head women's basketball coach if hired and I think Tennessee would be looking for a new women's head basketball coach in 5 years with a new Athletic Director.:(

If we're looking at reality, as long as the football program is successful, we're not going to be looking for a new A.D. regardless of how the Lady Vols do. The bigger fan base would be far more upset to see the men's bb team backslide than to see the women remain mediocre.

That's the sad truth of the matter.

Yeah, but the contention was that a CKH hire would lead to a turnover in both HC and AD within 5 years.

The latter isn't going to happen as long as the men's teams are successful.

Truth. Tyler Summitt had no singular accomplishment then nor now, other than being Pat Summitt's son, that should have landed him a head coaching position at LaTech much less UT.

I guess we'll never know if Tyler could coach or not. A damn shame, all around! :(

Personally, I hope he does get back in the game, coaching that is. Start at the bottom, work his way up and restore his name!

The two coaches that have been rumored to have been contacted neither will fulfill what we need to happen here. And time will prove this out. We will just be behind the 8 ball even further.

Lots of truth in this post. But what I have found when dealing with our fans, truth dont matter, just what sex or if they are connected to Pat in some way. Two of the dumbest arguments that could be made for a coach. If these rules apply as set forth by the fans and boosters, then Phillip Fulmer really dont care about the Lady Vols program at all. Cause if he did the right hire would be made, which is who is the best person for the job.

I joined this board this year to try to provide some reason. I might just have to go back to my 40 years of being a fan if a bad hire is made and retire from even speaking on any of the boards, Facebook pages etc. I dont want to get dumbed down by such foolishness.

For someone who only joined the board after 40 years, you seem awfully invested.

I am invested. Just never posted. There are thousands just like me. But the current state of our program forced me to at least have my say. Let me put it like this, I am not a fan of "stupid". Take that anyway you like.
