TENNESSEE: Thought QB looked great. Couple balls he took a tad off but still gassing some he doesn't need to. RB room loaded. Had a few good misses with ball placement. OL better than I thought with C out. The rotation there will help. Coleman was awesome at LT. Need to get 54 on the other side. WRs are legit. The DL exceeded expectations. Pass rush was big time. 37 & 30 were ripping off the edge. 9 made plays all over. 2nd & 3rd level took themselves out of a few plays but easily correctable. Liked what I saw on both sides. More impressive win than folks will say.

That's the difference between how football guys see the game versus the average fan.

Like Cole I thought we had an impressive performance. Team looks loaded on both sides of the ball. If our d-line plays like that the entire season then we'll be in the playoffs. Typically there are concerns after week 1. I honestly saw none after yesterday. The few mistakes we made are easily correctable.

This is gonna be a fun season folks.

Punter has to be better, hopefully he isn’t used much this season, and then the one punt he did execute, we fell into the end zone, overall special teams just needs to be tightened up, but all things that can be corrected

Interesting take on Campbell then. The guys on Dave Hookers cast were so critical of him. They claimed he was the main reason we whiffed on that 1st 4th and 1. The truth is maybe more in the middle?
That was a bad play call all around. The defenders came from the right side I think.

Not sure punter (I use the term loosely) can be fixed. Just can't see him living up to the standard the position enjoyed over the past 75-80 years.

The punter looked like he barely practiced. Never a good look.
It honestly looked like they pulled him off the street and he didn't understand his role.
That is also a compliment to the rest of the team. No obvious holes.

Didn't know that Cole Cublic is a former Center. Much more respect for him - Centers Rule!! (he does though need to pay a bit more attention to details...#27 and Campbell)
Yep, noticed that probably a lot on his plate. The avid Vol fans figured it out and the other ppl drive-by fans and others just thought well OL has a stud at LT and pass rush is looking great. next...

It wasn’t the middle, it was the right side.
That was just a bad play call. We should have ran a Qb sneak.

I thought the punting improved dramatically in the second half. He played 3 years professional Australian rules football and he claims to have third-strongest arm on the team so I expect they’ll use him for a fake punt or 2 this season.

I waited until I seen LSU last night to say this, Georgia, Bama, and Tennessee looked the best. As far as who won out of those 3 I would argue we played better competition than the other two. LSU was in the game last night until they just completely fell apart, they definitely played the better competition than any of the 3 i mentioned. Early in the season and could be very wrong in about 4 weeks. Just my thoughts from week 1

Week 1 tends to lead to overreactions on the positives and negatives (i.e., Colorado is a juggernaut and Florida is horrible). It's fun to discuss but no one really knows what the season will look like until we get 1/3 of the way or more into the season. Right now, we have no idea if UVA is just awful or UT is really good.

For me, I didn't think UT would cover with UVA's defense from last year and all the new moving parts for UT. But UT covered comfortably. UT also had correctable issues that made it feel like we could play a whole lot better, and yet we still won by 36 and put up 49 points against an ACC opponent. None of that is bad.

In sum, I think it was a positive first game with good things to build on and things to correct (special teams must get better, and I think probably will). We will know what this season looks like at the end of September. Is UT trophy hunting in 2023 or just looking for another positive season and competing at the highest levels is still a year or two away?

On that 4th down play, we handed the ball off really deep in the backfield. The pressure came around both edges, if the tight end/ receivers just get in the way of those outside rushers, we get the yard needed. I wonder if there were options on that play, and Joe had the option to sneak, handoff, or roll out based on the defensive alignment. The receivers may not have got the call, or knew their responsibilities

He is new at American football, first time in the field in a big environment in a new country. Give the guy a break.

If I have to give him a break like that, he has no business on the field.
If we had been playing a good team, he would have given our opponent two scores.
You are cutting him slack that you would not give to any other player on the team.
You are buying into his feel good narrative.

Sorry, but he is the starting punter on a good football team.
He acted like he had never seen American football or was aware of the basics of punting until the 2nd half. You can't tell me he hadn't gone over his duties, expectations, and the rules hundreds of times.

When I see him have a decent game, I will stop worrying about it. Austin Peay will give him a solid opportunity to redeem himself in a lower stakes situation. Until then, he is a red flag, and the biggest on the team.
