Rumor has it that there is some type of football meeting in NYC at the Waldorf Hotel on December 4th. The meeting will include the "Who is Who of college football coatches and A.D's" Supposedly, Hart is to do some interviewing at that time.
I heard that from Bob Kessling on the t.v. show, after the Ky. game and also heard it on a local radio sports talk show in Nashville.

It's the NCAA coaches conference and Hall of Fame induction.. most of the coaches will be there this coming weekend. Great time to interview. Fulmer will be inducted into the college football Hall of Fame

... (after briefly discussing the Gruden rumors and playing the interview this morning) that UT is a 'great job', the 9th best in the country (after UGA).

Reasons listed - money, passionate fan base, UT is the dominant in-state school (no SC vs Clemson, etc.), big states with top prospects close by, etc.

No big news but still nice to hear...

However, earlier in the show he didn't put much stock in the rumors of Gruden coming here, mainly because of college vs NFL.
When was the last time UGA won the NC??

When was the last time UGA won the NC??

What's the difference between UGA and UT's overall record over the last 10 years? How about who has more SEC Championships in that time? Who has been to more BCS Bowl games in that time?

Then you and your 8 posts can put me on ignore...unless of course you really like reading my posts, quoting them, then taking the time to reply to my posts.

My opinion on this particular topic is no different than several of the natives here, the majority of which I get along just fine with.

You are a Florida Fan.. every one in the country automatically puts you on ignore when you start talking.. or typing in this case.

Announcement Friday at 4 cst, unless Gruden turns UT down. If he does turn UT down it is a straight up crap shoot and nobody will like the hire. The fan base will be divided again and ultimately we will suck, unless we get a proven winner in the SEC. I put 0 stock into what coaches do in other conferences. Gruden or we are screwed

FYI, Gruden has never coached, let alone won in the SEC. A GA ( is not coaching, it's running errands). Some people should think before posting BS. The end.

Ok. I should have added that the excitement a Gruden hire would generate would boost recruiting significantly, unite the fanbase, put butts in the seats and create a great buzz nationally about UT football. There is no question the guy can coach. The one concern i have is that his offensive system is very complicated. i am not posting bs. There is merit to how much he has accomplished with several different teams and had immediate success. Why so negative? Any suggestions on any other coach the fan base would not hate and become divided?

Capitol hill, Nashville. thats about all I can say without too much risk. I am sure they see everything that goes out of the building via cyberspace. I guess they don't care or I would already be in trouble for my post yesterday. Lunch time is when I find stuff out, usually

At the bar? :beerf:

How does this moron adjudge us only the 9th best program?

If you watched the show he made a list and then read from it.

He didn't mention Oklahoma. I wonder if their message boards are blowing up like this one would be if someone left UT off a "best of" list.

I have my doubts as well and have accepted the fact that UT football may never work its way back to the way it was in the 90's. I still love watching them play, even if they never win.

Not been a fan long, huh?

This has happened three times in my life. Trust me, they'll be back.

Which explains perfectly why you were able to read my post, eventually comprehend it,

You're just hyping UGA because they kicked your a** this year, and before the Spurrier era, owned you by almost 30 games in your rivalry.

That date would certainly make sense because all, I think, Conference Championship games will be completed by then. I cannot imagine that waiting until after ALL bowl games are completed before we name a new HC is even a reasonable, realistic, or prudent expectation.

If we swing and miss on the "A" list, the more I read about Larry Fedora, the better I like him. He very much impressed Florida's AD when Urban left, but missed out because Munchamp had a bigger name at the time. Has a lot of experience as an OC at several schools, and has done well as a HC. Record: 42-23 at Southern Mississippi and North Carolina. Granted, not the big name, but could be a real up and comer.

Thanks for giving us hope, I remember UT not being very good in the 80's Johnny majors slowly turned the worm so to speak then Fulmer ran with Majors improvements and ran us clear until 2005 in a string of great seasons, great players and competitive games every single week, I hope we can do it again with an exciting coach, rather it be Gruden or not (today on ESPN he denied he was interested in the job, but its Gruden it could be a tactical ploy). Our bad luck really didnt hit until 2005, big programs have downtime, Michigan has been down since 2007, USC hasnt been all that great since 2008, Oklahoma hasnt done much either in that time frame, Texas had a god awful season in 2010, everyone needs to quit hitting the panic button.

I want to believe that some type of announcement "might" be made after Dec. 4th. According to reports...."The annual National Football Foundation awards ceremony and Hall of Fame induction on Dec. 4 is a de-facto convention of college coaches and administrators. Hart and several UT representatives are expected to be at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York for the induction of former UT coach Phillip Fulmer. From there, they can schedule interviews with candidates without having to worry about clandestine plane trips being tracked on message boards."

Rumors are running rampant from Gruden being offering part ownership in the Cleveland Browns to Gruden saying "no" to UT to heaven knows what.... He has indicated no one has contacted to ask him if he's interested. Whether that's true or just media spin, regardless, we need a coach!

Seems Arkansas is going after LSU's Les Miles and have offered him mega bucks...

I sure hope an announcement happens soon as I agree with the poster who said if this is delayed much longer, we won't have a chance at any of the top ranked recruiting potentials.

I like the Mark Stoops hire at Kentucky. If Kentucky ends up getting a better coach than us, I'm going to be pissed.

Stoops is a decent hire and about what you would expect for Kentucky. His name carries more weight then the actual product imo kind of like Dooley. Not comparing the two only the name recognition. Stoops is a better hire then Dooley was but still there is a reason he has never been a head coach. He may do really well at Kentucky but he isn't a slam dunk hire that Vol fans should be jealous of.

Yup.

I came in at the tail end of this one. My first memories of the Vols were them being losers.

1958 4-6
1959 5-4-1
1960 6-2-2
1961 6-4
1962 4-6
1963 5-5
1964 4-5-1

Then after a 9 year stint of decent seasons, here comes another one.

1975 7-5
1976 6-5
1977 4-7
1978 5-5-1
1979 7-5
1980 5-6
1981 8-4
1982 6-5

Then the glory years of Johnny and Fulmer, until 2008.
2008 5-7
2009 7-6
2010 6-7
2011 5-7
2012 5-7

We also went 5-6 in 2005 and 5-6 in 1988.

This one will be over soon. Noobs need not worry.

:hi:

I can live with UGA being a better job, but you are wrong as wrong can be about tradition. Nowhere close. Tradition of great fan base absolutely, but program history(wins, national championships,) UT is in a separate league.I think that current Jobs, USC,Oregon, Oklahoma,Texas, ND, Ohio St, Fla, ALa,LSU would all be considered clearly better jobs. The argument could be had for Fla St, Vtech,Mich,Nebraska,UGA,Auburn,Clemson, and a few others for comparable desirability.

Uh, yeah, you do know we are almost exactly tied with them for championships, right? We almost mirror them. 2 NC's recognized and almost same amount of SEC championships.... :detective:
