Yup.

I came in at the tail end of this one. My first memories of the Vols were them being losers.

1958 4-6
1959 5-4-1
1960 6-2-2
1961 6-4
1962 4-6
1963 5-5
1964 4-5-1

Then after a 9 year stint of decent seasons, here comes another one.

1975 7-5
1976 6-5
1977 4-7
1978 5-5-1
1979 7-5
1980 5-6
1981 8-4
1982 6-5

Then the glory years of Johnny and Fulmer, until 2008.
2008 5-7
2009 7-6
2010 6-7
2011 5-7
2012 5-7

We also went 5-6 in 2005 and 5-6 in 1988.

This one will be over soon. Noobs need not worry.

:hi:

Thanks for posting those records, they look a lot like the records Michigan had in the 50's and in the RichRod era, and theyre rebounding now..... I'd also like to point out that I'm a Fulmerite so maybe im a bit biased to CPF and think he shouldnt have been fired in the first place, but thats my prerogative.

Announcement Friday at 4 cst, unless Gruden turns UT down. If he does turn UT down it is a straight up crap shoot and nobody will like the hire. The fan base will be divided again and ultimately we will suck, unless we get a proven winner in the SEC. I put 0 stock into what coaches do in other conferences. Gruden or we are screwed

After 1 year, the fan based is going to be divided regardless of who is hired. If it is Gruden, fans will be mad if he doesn't win 9-10 games and there is no way we have enough talent to win that many games. Kiffin's screwing will continue to haunt us for another 2-3 years. As you said, if it is not Gruden, most fans are going to be in the same mind frame they are now. Only a few of us realize the real problems we face with our football program.

Rumor has it that there is some type of football meeting in NYC at the Waldorf Hotel on December 4th. The meeting will include the "Who is Who of college football coaches and A.D's" Supposedly, Hart is to do some interviewing at that time.
I heard that from Bob Kessling on the t.v. show, after the Ky. game and also heard it on a local radio sports talk show in Nashville.

That's not a "rumor", Hart say it during his presser last weekend.

I think UT is a better job than UGA. I think we are a top 5-7 program or job..

You can argue UGA is in the state with so much talent but they also have GA Tech down the road and even more pro teams in state. Plus every school in the country raids their state every year. So, in a way that puts them at kind of a disadvantage. Plus, their tradition and history is second fiddle to ours!!!!!!!!

Interesting that your rank is equal to our record the past two seasons...

UT has enough talent to win 9 next year with an elite coach. The OL should be great. Lane has come a long way. Neal has played reasonably well. QB should be fine with or without Bray.

The DL is in much better shape than when Dooley arrived. Assuming UT returns to the 4-3, there is talent if not depth at LB. A good DC will make the DB's look like different players. UT will not be favored in 9 or 10 games more than likely. But they do have the talent to win that many and especially if a few contributors sign on NSD.

Cowherd is right more than he is wrong and whenever he is wrong it is usually about USC or New England who he is a major homer of. UT is a very good job and a lot of very good coaches are interested in the position. #1 choice is obviously Gruden but I think it is more attractive today that it was when Fulmer was fired in 2008. And thats all because of Dooley. Even though his W-L record was terrible, the program is very stable thanks to DD.

You're just hyping UGA because they kicked your a** this year, and before the Spurrier era, owned you by almost 30 games in your rivalry.

Yeah, that's it...all the UT locals in this thread who said the same exact thing must really enjoy "hyping" UGA too.

Fact is you can build a top flight program in Athens without venturing very far outside of the state. UT doesnt have that luxury. That's the case whether UF loses to UGA or not.

FYI, Gruden has never coached, let alone won in the SEC. A GA ( is not coaching, it's running errands). Some people should think before posting BS. The end.

Then maybe instead of Gruden, we should see if we can get Gene Stallings or Pat Dye. Hey, I know, Terry Bowden could probably be had easily as well. Or -- dare I say it -- Phil Fulmer?

Then they have to beat Georgia, and South Carolina, and at Missouri, etc. , because you have 3 pretty much guaranteed losses....at Oregon, at Alabama, and at Florida. They will have to win all the other 9.

Are you saying Dooley has the program in better shape than Fulmers last year? Surely not....

Yeah Fulmer who won 152 games left the program in worse shape than Dooley who won how many again.....was it 14 or 15 i forget, the dillusional kill this board everytime we talk new coach.

I am predicitng that our "A" list will be completed and none of the candidates will take the job. I also predict when interviews are conducted from the "B" list that Jones from Cincinnati will take the job.
Fire Dooley and pay out $5,000,000 and replace him with another lower level coach. Remember, Jones is winning football games with the players that Brian Kelly recruited.
If Hart does not get this hire right, then the Titantic will definately sink. Us being irrevelant since 2008 is bad enough, now to re-build will take a couple of more seasons, even with the correct hire. That would mean 6 seasons as being irrevelant.
If Hart hires the wrong person, then the program will continue to fall and it will take decades to recover....
I have my doudts that we get a "HomeRun" hire.....
If Hart screws up this hire I say we break out the pitchforks, kerosene soaked torches and mattresses and tar and feather his ass.

Respectfully disagree.

UGA has the advantage of a fertile recruiting area, arguably as much "tradition" as UT, with a better track record of recent success.

Have to agree with this, but for a guy with national recognition like Gruden, either rises well-above the threshold he'd need to cross to make it work with recruiting.

... (after briefly discussing the Gruden rumors and playing the interview this morning) that UT is a 'great job', the 9th best in the country (after UGA).

Reasons listed - money, passionate fan base, UT is the dominant in-state school (no SC vs Clemson, etc.), big states with top prospects close by, etc.

No big news but still nice to hear...

However, earlier in the show he didn't put much stock in the rumors of Gruden coming here, mainly because of college vs NFL.
I agree with him but cant stand him
unlike most of you guys who solely like talking heads based on there opinion of the vols

True, again, but VN has been swamped a bit by folks who thought Dooley was a good coach.

Hang in there with us... it'll get back to form here some day.

I have finally decided to respond to some of the silly and just to be honest totally ridiculous crap that has been posted about current search or actually lack of search for the homerun hire at U.T.. I have read just about every thread and just trying to be real and very honest in the if Gruden dont get hired. The Vols need that coach that can motivate these young men and have them realize that winning is a state of mind, the hard part of all these games is believing you are a winner before you step on to the field. I understand that talent is always a key factor but you cant pull talent unless they believe in you, point in case John Chavis, but you will never get him to leave L.S.U.. Now im sorry if you dont understand what im trying to say, the coaches we use to have could motivate and draw every ounce of desire from all players, but most of all before those players ever stepped on to that field believed in each other, the coaches and knew that this ass kicking that was about to take place was personal and that is just the way it was. That is what we need to have again, so who ever can come in and give the team that attitude again, that swagger we once so proudly displayed then bring it on,whoever it is.

But who cares about your predictions? What a waste of typing.
By the way definitely is spelled definitely- not definately.
