Yep. It feels like there must be some behind-the-scenes dynamic going on with word being Jared Dickey is adamant about being the full-time catcher if healthy. If true, I wonder if we backed off Skenes rather than sour that relationship. Not entirely sure.

I know one thing.....I need some Tennessee Baseball news!! I hate the off-season and it's only been 2 weeks. I need something exciting to happen.

That’s been obvious with the water toting for Vandy and the back-handed compliments of CTV/UT program. Clearly has done little to no research.

I actually am a former college baseball player who grew up in East Tennessee and live in Nashville now. Also have lived in Birmingham, Atlanta, and Palm Beach.

If you took off the orange blinders, you would see I've been extremely critical of Corbin/Vandy and Sully/UF. They each have been at their schools long enough to shoulder all the blame for issues arising from their program.

Observing and acknowledging stronger and weaker points in every program is what people who love baseball (especially college) do.

Edit: if the Atlanta Braves had a forum, I would probably be there instead of here. But, this does the trick, especially for convos around the college game. (Especially at work )

Are we really expecting a "mass exodus" out of LSU? Some attrition, sure, but why a mass exodus? Are they planning to force people out? That doesn't feel like a good way to build a sustainable program.

They already have 7/8 in the portal, which is already a decent chunk (~20/21%). I am personally expecting more, specifically in positions where they are picking up surefire starters like Tanks and Little (edit: now Carter Young at SS, and lead for UCLA's Thatcher and in the top group for Skenes). If it were me, I wouldn't stay around unless I could figure out another position to play.

Everyone of CTV’s classes have been top 25 and all but one have been in the top 10. We’re already there.

By PG, yes. By Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, PBR, not as much. 2021 was Vitello's first consensus Top 15 class. Not sure how 2022 will grade out yet, although Tennessee is taking less commits (relatively) so their ranking won't be as high unless you look at the ranking per player metric.

I have mentioned many times about my personal disdain for what PG has become. It is pay-to-play, and kids/teams can pay their directors to move up the rankings. I have seen it firsthand and just became disgusted with it after a while. This is coming from me, who was rated a 10 on PG.

I am *not* insinuating any SEC players did this (or Tennessee to be explicit), however you won't catch me putting a quintilla of belief into their rankings. Other publications and scouting organizations do a much better job.

Plus, development once on campus means a lot more anyway. Drew went from a slender HS pitching prospect pumping low 90s into an MLB-graded above-average CF with 4/5 tools (depending on the scout).

Vitello has done a great job at TCU, Arkansas, and now UT of finding players who will continue to excel once on campus.

Tn had the #2 class 2022 until most went pro instead or something like that? Seems like Moore and another player was the only ones who ended up signing here.

Chase Burns, Christian Moore, Blake Burke, and Drew Beam all made it to campus, as well as Jucos Seth Stevenson and Logan Chambers. Some others like Wyatt Evans also made it to Knoxville and weren’t immediate contributors, but have bright futures.

Hard to ask for more than that.

Yeah, if I was in his program and 3rd base was my sweet spot, I’d be in his office yesterday. Either to hash through how I’d get on the field or mutually agreeing to part ways.

There’s always a chance Tommy Tanks just can’t get it done, but there are not many feelings/situations worse than coaches not believing in you/bringing in “rentals” or “outsiders” to play over you.

Me too, but what we got was about best case scenario. House was never coming to school. Burns could have been an R1 or R2 pick, but decided to come. I thought Moore was more likely to go pro than Spikes, but he came to college too. Getting both Burns and Moore were huge wins.

Tigers are absolutely cleaning up. Will they be able to coach them up/maximize potential?

Edit: I have watched Carter play for a while (since Team USA days). He is slick in the field 98% of the time. Bricks for hands 2% of the time with zero pattern on when he makes errors.

Raw power is there on both sides. Swing-and-miss is what sunk him from a pre-season 1st round pick this year. Hit like .210 and was benched in the regionals.

Miami's 4* QB supposedly just got an $11M deal (I have no way of personally verifying this information FWIW), so Tennessee is off the hot seat.

We had three scouts (that I’m aware of) at last night’s Owls game. For years they’d only be MLB scouts. The transfer portal changed that- some of those scouts now may be there checking out players to transfer, rather than looking at them for the draft. Assistant college coaches show up as well, and they’ve told me they’re there to look at guys.

I told ya'll what was going to happen. I had heard rumors at SEC tournament that LSU was going to buy a Natty. They are becoming the elite travel ball team with the big sponsor, you fill in the blank. They are going to throw money at the biggest transfer portal guys out there this year and the plan is for it to continue in the coming years. No need to go get HS kids when you can get proven top level college kids to build a team that can win it all. They are not done and you will see some pitchers headed that way in the next few days. Hopefully not any leaving UT. But we can say what we want, money talks when it comes to life. If you get enough money, you would probably go play anywhere. They have the rabid fan base to do it.
