jeez. I was putting in 70 hours a week when I got a "grown up" job after college. I still do during by busy season. Wonder if I can get some sort of past performance credit and hang it up now.
That's no way to live, IMO.
Work is great. Work is important. It's essential to a good life balance. The rest of life is way more important, though. You're awake say 119 hrs per week. Working 70. In traffic 10 hrs. Getting ready for work 4 hrs. Let's say you're skipping breakfast and lunch, or just eating on the go but 7 hrs for dinner. **** you gotta do around the house, say 5-10 hours. So you got 20-25 waking hours for everything else that's important to you? No fkn way.
If you love work and that's what fulfills you, that's amazing, and you had a good life. I worked 70 hrs for 2 months one time before I had kids, and I said never again. I don't live to work, I work to live. I work 35-40 hrs. Have an entire 3-day weekend with my kids, and the evenings from 5 pm until they go to bed Monday-Thursday. I'm not going to be looking back with regret at missing these years.
We may lose the republic to China, but I'm a happy man.
