College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

As they should. The numbers just don't add up. I wonder if that is the kind of respect Memphis would receive with only 3 losses?
Part of it may be respect for Kelvin Sampson’s coaching prowess, although he showed his ass in a One cent/Juwanish sort of way earlier this season.

Hard to blame him though. This is what had him twerked…

I was just saying every metric likes them, including those with zero human element…on the flip side Providence is getting respect from human element but metrics dislike them. Ultimately both will probably end up as 4 seeds and both be popular upset picks.

Yeah, I was agreeing with the idea that they will likely be seeded lower than the metrics suggest. They have no business on the 1 or 2 seed line.

Yeah, that is my biggest gripe with them. The NET loves them (#3), though. Just seems odd that the entirety of their résumé is built on beating up on inferior teams, avoiding good teams, and losing to the few you have played.

This is where the RPI had flaws and where the NET still does. That's why it's an index, and you use the index to create the Quadrant tier records.

The RPI doesn't reward who you beat; it rewards your schedule (opponents' records); where you beat them; and the NET now adds some variation of how much you beat them by. For instance, Houston played UVA at home, Butler, Wisconsin, and Oregon on a neutral court, at Alabama, and Oklahoma State on a neutral court. They beat UVA, Butler, Oregon, and Oklahoma State, who are all Quad 2 since not on the road, but they get a 1.0 for the neutral wins as opposed to 0.6 for a home win. A home loss or true road win are multiplied by 1.4. They lost to Wisconsin and Alabama, which bolster their SOS without a win but were neutral or on the road.

They have one true home loss and have also beaten many of their opponents by double digits (which is where the NET comes in). All that to say, you have to dive deep into the reasoning, and as you suggest, Houston is no better than a 4 seed.

And TCU only down 1 at the half to Kansas. That would be huge for us and our path to a 2 seed.

South Carolina won tonight. They’re now 18-11. Honestly, a sneaky decent season and likely are NIT bound. A lot of discussion on hear about Martin getting fired, but I’m not so sure that happens this year.
Nah, he's not getting fired, this year. @golfballs , how close are the 'Cocks from sneaking into the Tournament ?

TCU absolutely destroying Kansas over the last five minutes. KU has no timeouts, down 12 with seven minutes to go.

It's only a Q1 loss, assuming this sticks, but still not what Kansas wanted with the Big XII race in the balance.

I actually think they’ll get “next 4” talk after tonight. The committee can overlook early bad losses, and they do have a recent decent win over LSU. Going to Auburn gives them a great opportunity but that’s a tall task. They’ll likely need that and or a comparable win in the SECT.

Kansas looks as flat as we did tonight, but against a significantly better team and without a guy like JJJ stepping up for them.

Man this game would be so opportune for Dixon. A season he was probably starting to feel some heat, they make the dance, beat Kansas and in doing so increase their odds of making the second round in the tourney. At TCU that’s good for another couple years

I think if you’re Kansas you foul them again. TCU is an awful FT shooting team. Put the pressure on them.
