College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

That’s me as well but I’m trying to contain my emotion since I let some losses affect me a little too much last year. I think this team is very good and should go 2-1. I also think 3-0 is very possible. But I’m just reminding myself that 5 of the 8 teams in the field are currently Top 12 teams and we likely won’t see a stretch of competition like that again till March.

Still…..hope we go at least 2-1as that will really do a lot for our resume and further support the idea that this team is the real deal.
Teams won't see a stretch like that in NCAAT ... 3 games in 3 days with no rest. Only see that kind of schedule in the SEC tournament ... that is a draining, exhausting 3 days.
Got to be BOTH DEEP and GOOD to go 3-0!!! A little luck goes a long way as well.
Strategically, we have the most favorable slot ... we play the first game on Monday (2 hours more rest than our opponent and the 'opportunity' to play more players and spread the energy savings around).
Win and we are in the first game of the winners bracket on Tuesday (2 hours more rest than our opponent).
Guessing the 3rd game comes down to who has the freshest players and a little luck.
Still, I am thinking/hoping we start out with back to back wins over Syracuse and whoever comes out ahead in Purdue/Gonzaga.

Well, Barnes has ‘only’ won 50% of his NCAAT games at UT. UT is a game under ,500 or 2 games under if you throw out Cuonzo’s play in game.

Since the SECT is in “March” and CRB went to 3x tournament finals out of the 4 SECTs from 2018 thru 2022 ‘mediocre in March’ isn’t correct.

Barnes has won 50% of his NCAAT games at UT and 66% of all games at UT, BUT… you don’t get to play the Woffords and TN Techs in the NCAAT. EVERY opponent is a very good team. Plus half or more of the regular season games are true home games. So it’s logical that most good coaches (the ones that get to the NCAAT regularly) won’t have as good of a winning percentage in the NCAAT.

ALSO, CRB gets criticized for underperforming the seed. However, UT isn’t like Duke and UNC and get de facto home games only an hour or two away from campus that first weekend. UT gets put into the scenario of being a higher seed but must then play in front of hostile crowds pulling for the under dogs.

So I disagree with “mediocrity”. Unfortunate or unlucky makes more sense to me.
I was going to say you have to review our seeding and how far we’ve advanced vs our seeding to determine if we’ve underperformed or over performed in the NCAAT with Barnes but even that isn’t perfect. Last year is a great example. Per our 4 seed we were supposed to make the Sweet 16 and did but we absolutely over performed in last year’s tourney given we were a popular first round upset pick and almost no one outside of Vols fans thought we would beat the favored Duke Bluedevils as they were one of the hottest teams in the country coming into that game. So a seeding to results comparison isn’t ideal either. Regardless, I love having Barnes as our coach.

Some of those high seeds looked great, until we were matched in the opening weekend with the PAC12 tournament champion and Michigan playing their best basketball of the season. Then also getting to play possibly the 2 best teams that Loyola-Chicago and Florida Atlantic have ever produced.

It’s shocking how we always seem to be matched up with THAT team. The Cinderella, or P5 that caught fire late, etc.

Oregon State and UM barely made the field. It can be argued that Michigan shouldn’t have been invited and Oregon State wasn’t going without winning the PAC12T. They were both better than their records indicated and they were out to prove it.

Wow. Missouri was down by 20 with 11 minutes to go in the 2nd half against Minnesota and won. I was ready to call them overrated after it looked like they were about to get slaughtered again, but man what a comeback.

If Kim English has good results in wins and losses at Providence..plus recruits well..he should be next in line at Tennessee when the Deacon hangs it up..

That will be a fun matchup for Aidoo to see how he can defend. But, I assume our staff will watch the FDU tape and try and mimic some of that albeit Purdue isn’t the exact same team.

I think the key is understanding you aren’t going to shutdown Edey. You beat Purdue by shutting down everyone else. Guard the perimeter well, keep them from hitting 3’s and you can win. Edey will always get his points. You just can’t let their guards get loose.
If I remember FDU went 5 guards and basically played like a bunch of pests on D
