College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

I agree with not wanting Purdue.

Explain why Houston is a bad match up. I don't follow Houston much.

Physical in the post. Aidoo would most likely get pushed around and murdered and Awaka would foul out within three minutes. The guards are very "handsy." Knecht's biggest weakness earlier in the season was his inability to drive without lots of turnovers. I just feel like it would be a disaster.

Not sure I agree with Houston being a bad matchup. They're tough, no doubt, but I don't give their posts near the credit you do, I guess. They are both (Roberts and Francis) almost identical players to Awaka. 6-7, 6-8 guys who are bulky and push people around, but aren't particularly skilled. Both are terrible FT shooters, too, so I'd give Awaka and Estrella free reign to foul them so long as you could keep Aidoo out of foul trouble.

The guards are very good (handsy is a good word). Cryer and Sharp are very inefficient offensively, and like you saw last night, when Houston gets in tight games, they rely heavily (too much) on Jamal Shead. Cryer would have made a great Auburn guard.

I think our depth would help us in that matchup. Mashack on Shead, ZZ on Cryer, and Knecht on Sharp. JJJ and Aidoo can defend the post because Houston doesn't try to work thru the post very often. They'd have to lock us down on defense, which is possible, but then they'd likely have to beat us from the outside on offense. They can get hot from there, but they can get really cold, too.

Their posts are 6’7”-6’8” and 220-230, what similar post has murdered Aidoo? Seems like the 6’10”+ 230+ variety has been what he’s really struggled with imo.

Their 4/5 are…
Damian Dunn 6’5” 165lbs 20mpg 7.6ppg 2.4rpg 38%FG 40%2ptFG 35%3ptFG 68%FT

Joseph Tugler 6’7” 230lbs 16mpg 3.8ppg 4.2rpg 58%FG 59%2ptFG 0%3ptFG 46%FT

J’wan Roberts 6’7” 220lbs 26mpg 8.7ppg 7.1rpg 56%FG 57%2ptFG 0%3ptFG 55%FT

Ja’Vier Francis 6’8” 225lbs 20mpg 6.0ppg 5.6rpg 61%FG 61%2ptFG 0%3ptFG 59%FT

So undersized posts that don’t block shots and don’t shoots any 3’s, terrible at the FT line as well…yes they’re tough, but offensively they’re very guard oriented and dependent and that’s the strength of our offense. If Aidoo can get any kind of position there’s no threat whatsoever of his shot being blocked.

Yea, of the projected 1 seeds I have a really hard time not begging for us to draw Houston.

Agreed. They scare me the least. I think they are good but our best matchup, especially considering they don’t want to run and prefer to play in the half court. I think we can force them to play our style of basketball.

Well at least we didn’t lose to a 9-11 Georgia Tech team like #3 North Carolina just did. But at least they were on the road.

UNC had about the same shooting %s as us, all around. They just scored more bc, I presume, GT played quick so they got 20 more shots. Tough night for both teams.

Goes to show all college basketball teams have off nights and look like crap these days. It's just that the really good ones have fewer of these than the rest

All will be right with the world if we win on Sat but that's a big if
