I fully understand that March is the ultimate grading scale. You gotta be able to win in March at some point or the regular seasons start to lose their shine a little. I believe my point is not only based on just winning the regular season but also not having to watch and hear about Bama taking the SEC crown and how they’re the leader of the conference. Can’t stand themI care about the seeding that’s about it, and you should do that looking at some of the game threads lol
They can think whatever they want but nationally everybody knows who the best team is in the SEC and there is always the SEC tournamentI fully understand that March is the ultimate grading scale. If they win the conference championship they deserve that praise. There is a simple fix here. We go out and win this ourselves. To the victor goes the spoils as the old saying goes. They can think whatever they want but nationally everybody knows who the best team is in the SEC and there is always the SEC tournament
People don't remember years later that X was better than Y but had a tougher schedule. Regular season championships are what people cite. That's why regular season championships matter. They can think whatever they want but nationally everybody knows who the best team is in the SEC and there is always the SEC tournament
In my opinion, it’s important, but only from the standpoint it positions you for a better seed in the NCAA Tournament as you pursue a national title. Conference championships carry much more weight in football with so few teams, for that same reason.Winning an SEC championship is always important. Why are you watching if you’re one of these NCAA Tournament only fans?
Agree. How many SEC conference tourney champions made it to the final 4In my opinion, it’s important, but only from the standpoint it positions you for a better seed in the NCAA Tournament as you pursue a national title. Off the top of my head, I couldn’t tell you who won the last ten SEC Basketball championships, but I remember who was in the Final Four each of the last 40 seasons.
Winning the regular season is, to me, waaaaaay more important than winning the SEC Tournament. The latter is great, but when we won it a few years ago, the selection committee screwed us over by giving us a 3 seed when we deserved a 2 seed at lowest (and even had a strong resume argument for being a 1 seed). Had we been regular season champs that season, I have no doubt we would have gotten a 2 or 1 seed instead. In my opinion, it’s important, but only from the standpoint it positions you for a better seed in the NCAA Tournament as you pursue a national title. Agreed. I should’ve clarified my post by saying I couldn’t tell you who the last ten SEC champions were - tournament or regular season - but everyone remembers Final Four runs.Winning the regular season is, to me, waaaaaay more important than winning the SEC Tournament. I just don't think you can make a rock solid argument about being the best team in your league if you don't win the regular season crown. I've made this point recently, but we've had probably a handful of seasons since Bruce got to Knoxville where we've arguably been the best team in the SEC but haven't won the regular season title. I don't want that to happen again this year. Getting a 1 seed (only possible if we win the regular season) would massively increase our chances of breaking through to the Final Four.
Yes ppl track elite 8’s hardly anybody cares about who won their conference if their team did bad in March…I get March is a crapshoot but nationally the point of college basketball is making it to the ncaa tournament and winning in march.Does anyone care who was in the elite 8 three years ago? Does anyone track number of elite 8's as opposed to conference championships?
