That's obviously not in order of prestige.Yes. For example, our basketball history on Wikipedia, listed in order of prestige. View attachment 622090
I was reading a board thread today where an Alabama fan was claiming basketball superiority over UT and two of their main points were number of regular season and tournament SEC championships.Yes ppl track elite 8’s hardly anybody cares about who won their conference if their team did bad in March…I get March is a crapshoot but nationally the point of college basketball is making it to the ncaa tournament and winning in march.
Winning the SEC is great but if we want to take the next step as a program we need to win in march simple as that and I think even Rick Barnes would tell you that.
They are claiming second place in sec titles to Kentucky as a bragging point?I was reading a board thread today where an Alabama fan was claiming basketball superiority over UT and two of their main points were number of regular season and tournament SEC championships.
Good point about taking the next step and advancing in the NCAA. It's not a zero sum game though; we can aim for conference championships and an extended run in the NCAA.
An SEC title is a bigger deal than a NCAA appearance. It’s not even close. Half the league is going to make the tournament this year.Just like the rest of them, right? Here’s Duke’s page, for example.
But hey, if you value SEC titles and being the best of 14 teams moreso than national dominance among 300-plus programs, you do you, bro.

Nobody’s arguing about an SEC title vs a tournament appearance. The poster said he’d rather have an SEC title than an elite eight, which is absurd. You’re a national afterthought if you lose in the first or second round. An SEC title is a bigger deal than a NCAA appearance. It’s not even close. I remember our SEC championships, but of course there aren't many in my lifetime. That's part of what makes it special. Yes, the ultimate goal is a Final 4/National Championship type finish but give us all the trophies we can get. That Tournament championship a couple of years ago was long coming and was an incredible feeling for a lifetime fan.In my opinion, it’s important, but only from the standpoint it positions you for a better seed in the NCAA Tournament as you pursue a national title. Conference championships carry much more weight in football with so few teams, for that same reason.
Off the top of my head, I couldn’t tell you who won the last ten SEC Basketball championships, but I remember who was in the Final Four each of the last 40 seasons.
You are literally arguing that. You’re claiming that wiki lists in order of prestige, which would make a conference title least prestigious.Nobody’s arguing about an SEC title vs a tournament appearance.
