College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

Imagine turning on a coach that won 20+ games every year he was here....got to the tourney every year...got the program to their first ever sweet 16 and finished with an 89-36 record. Green told the fans to shove it and I didn't blame him at all...especially having to sit through the Houston and Oneill years before he got here.
I hear you, man. But, there was much more to the Green narrative than him winning 20 or more games for 4 years.

For starters, his teams seemed to underachieve based on the talent level.
Secondly, he was thin-skinned and wasn't a good fit for this area. Exhibit A is him making comments about fans can just go to K-Mart if they don't want to attend games (or something to that effect).

I've followed UT basketball since the mid-DeVoe years, sat through the misery of the Houston era, and was optimistic about the program's future during the O'Neill years. I can honestly say I was glad when Green was shown the door.

The Louisville job is gonna slowly lose its luster if they don't somehow make there way to one of the two super conferences. The Big 10 and SEC are gonna suck the life out of the ones left out. I think they eventually top out at something like 24 a team each so maybe Louisville craws in the gate at the last minute.

And what would be the point of a 24-team conference? What is the point of an 18-team conference? Money? Bigger TV deals? If you've got 18 teams in a conference, you might have half of them that basically have the better programs, crazier fans and thus more money, get most of the TV exposure, but the bottom half is getting its share of all that TV money. I guess if the TV/streaming rights deals keep going up, that justifies having a massive conference--and that's basically what college FB and BB are about now--greed, maximizing revenue. Everything else, practical concerns like scheduling and travel, conference integrity, traditions, doesn't mean squat. And then the SEC and the Big10 will merge and form one absurd 50-team conference, the point of which is.....who knows. It's stupid--but the money-grubbing, by everybody, it's real.

To align more with a NFL model. Two conferences of 24 teams each spread across the US North to South and East to West. Broken down into division based of Geographical location. Playoffs will come from these conferences plus those not in these conferences based on any established criteria by the board selection committee

GameDay going to Duke next week. Figured the odds were low that the show would involve UT in back-to-back weeks, but I would have preferred Kansas at Houston over yet another visit to the same exact game they showcase seemingly twice a year.

Gameday never coming to Knoxville to see this TN team is disappointing, but not unsurprising. Only really 1 true Saturday home game for us this year that was worthy of it. Which is wild. Most of our big home games have been midweek.

Also disappointing because it might end up being for the outright SEC Championship. Can't ask for much bigger of a finale.
