I bet they’d drop them to a 2 (or even a 3) if it’s announced they’re out for the year. They did just that after Kenyon Martin broke his leg in the 2000 CUSA Tournament after Cincinnati had been the dominant #1 team all year. They would obviously never do it, but if Flagg and Brown are both done for the season, Duke isn’t a 1-seed. The committee will still honor their body of work, but man that team is cooked. Sweet 16 their ceiling, IMO, without those 2 players.
Agreed there. I watched it and I bet he will be back but likely second weekend.I bet they’d drop them to a 2 (or even a 3) if it’s announced they’re out for the year. Came here to mention that. Dropped the to the three seed line. I don’t know that there has ever been an injury that impactful on the tournament.I bet they’d drop them to a 2 (or even a 3) if it’s announced they’re out for the year. FWIW there’s precedent with Cincinnati and Kenyon Martin, they were considered a lock for a 1 seed until he suffered an injury in their conference tournament loss, the committee dropped them to a 2. Obviously that’s been awhile and no way to know if they’ll do that again, I’m also sure Duke won’t disclose the extent of these injuries either if those guys don’t return prior to selection Sunday. They would obviously never do it, but if Flagg and Brown are both done for the season, Duke isn’t a 1-seed. You could be right. With Martin (I was there in person and saw it), it was obvious he had broken his leg as soon as he went down.FWIW there’s precedent with Cincinnati and Kenyon Martin, they were considered a lock for a 1 seed until he suffered an injury in their conference tournament loss, the committee dropped them to a 2.
