Colorado discussing move to Big 12

The SEC should snag up Oregon and Washington while they have a chance.

Along with Arizona or ASU. Remove the best remaining options for further B1G westward expansion. Then wait for the ACC to implode to and grab a few more and the Power Conference consolidation is complete.

12 playoff spots with likely 6-8 going to SEC teams on a yearly basis, as the SEC, B1G, and XII will be the only conferences that matter. Consolidation of conferences, consolidation of playoff spots, consolidation of all that sweet, sweet cash.

Noting screams Southeastern Conference like two Pacific Northwestern schools

The idea of geographic conferences died a long time ago. The only major drawback on those west coast games is the time difference.

I would have mentioned Stanford, but I already want to trade Vandy for them. It would be an upgrade on both the athletic and academic front.

The PAC has no one to blame but themselves. They ****ed up. They had a perfect opportunity to take their 12 teams and the Big 12’s 8 to form the Big PAC and have a 20 team super conference. Instead they had inept leadership, slow played their media rights deal and now it will disband within 3 years

Agree but I will say that the Pac12 is in a tough geographical region. There just isn't a lot of Division I programs in the West like you have in most of the states East of the Mississippi. Their only true expansion options were into Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas which were very far away.

The Pac12 could have added BYU and Boise State back prior to UCLA and USC leaving. Once the LA schools left, there wasn't much of a chance for Pac12 survival.

Crazy to think that there is as many FBS programs in Louisiana as California.

The B1G should have taken Missouri with Nebraska. I don't understand that move. Missouri is more valuable than Rutgers.

They were trying to go to an even 12 in order to have a conference championship game (and get the additional revenue that came with it). With the division setup still being necessary for such at that time, taking both would have created 13 teams and unbalanced divisions.

I think there was also some thought at the time (re: Nebraska) about a bigger national brand being more beneficial to the new concept of a conference network that they were about to be the first to launch (to mitigate some of the risk), but they found out later that the boatloads of money the conference network was making came more from the higher revenues that were being pulled from within the conference teams’ TV footprints rather than the outside national revenue.

Yeah when I posted, I forgot they were at 11 and Nebraska made it 12.

I think 4, 18 or 20 team super conferences is what will happen. I think the ACC can survive as long as they don’t lose Clemson and/or convince Notre Dame join full time (which I think has to happen at some point). They also could pull Liberty, South Florida Florida Atlantic and UConn at anytime. Plus, I believe a strong offer to West Virginia could help replenish any teams leaving (Like if the SEC poached Miami and Florida State, which I think could happen).

See, therein lies the problem. There could be a 5 or 6 megaconferences. Once you get down to the Libertys, the USFs, etc of the world-few people really care. A 24 team megaconferences of ho hum schools doesn't do squat for anyone.

The big dog has to eat and the conferences with the most eyeballs are going to take the lions share.

Same reason the xfl, usfl, etc are floundering

Not saying I do not like "lesser" leagues or anything like that. Hell, I haven't been to a MLB game in over a decade but I attend several games a year of the local minor league team. Why? It's cheaper, less hassle, and bare bones.

There's room for both in the world.

Just saying that a conference of lesser schools is going to end up being a minor league or will be swept into the dustbin of history pretty quickly.

Deion to Colorado makes more sense to me now. This was known to Colorado and Deion. I bet they are counting on an auto bid for playoffs with an easier schedule.

I wouldn't count on this. The two big moneymakers are going to lobby hard for the top teams in rankings with limited of any auto bids.

I do find it interesting that the Big 12 is coming out of this with more power than the PAC 10. I must say I didn't see that happening but in retrospect we should have seen that coming. The west coast simply doesn't value or consume college athletics like the rest of the country.

So...

How much of the Hallmark Channel have you been watching to know that little tidbit?
I can’t help that either my wife or my mom has it on from before Halloween until Xmas. Either house that I go to will have those movies on in the background.

In my defense there are a ton of good looking women in those movies .

Some of them are pretty good. Naughty or Nice with Hilarie Burton is funny. I catch it at least once, just about every rear.

It doesn't make sense financially but adding Oklahoma State and Kansas would solve rivalry issues and have other benefits for SEC. Kansas doesn't add much in Football but man would it help SEC in the sport it seems to struggle with the most (Men's Basketball). Oklahoma State is an all-around great sports program and that gives OU an end of year rivalry game.

Kansas-Missouri would be another end of year rivalry that would be solved by adding them. Kansas-Kentucky would be an awesome Basketball rivalry.
I really like the idea of the SEC adding UNC, KU, and Duke. While the addition of these teams really doesn't help football, there aren't many teams that are going to help football other than OSU, Mich, Clemson, FSU, USC, and ND. However, you create a dominate basketball conference that would have some really good games.

No.. I left for the Air Force in 1973, and have been gone since. I do come back home regularly though. Will be in town for the Vols home opener. Been out west since 83. Can't stand the humidity back there...

Thanks. Reason I asked, we are looking at property to retire on in that area.

Go Vols.
