Colorado vs TCU

And shame on you for being a lap dog for the ape, and not taking 30 seconds to go back and see what I actually said.

I already knew that. All you did was prove it to the rest of VN.

Go Vols.

And let’s not forget the people saying “well he won a game that nobody gave him a chance in”. Well golly gee wow folks! Guess who did that just last night as a double digit underdog and beat a Top 10 squad by 21 and didn’t have to squeak it out, but yet all you hear is about Deion because Deion is all about himself and keeping himself in the spotlight.

Nice job cherry-picking. For the record, here's my entire post:

Note the "good things at Colorado", and "8-4 / 9-3 team" points I made.

Of course, that doesn't fit your narrative, does it?

I'll stick with my opinion that it's a step up that he cannot make. He will do good things (pronounced "win") at CU. What he will not do is win a Natty. He's been a winner as a player at the college and NFL level. Top shelf, no doubt. And he's won at the FCS (HBCU) level as a coach. Note that he did not actually win an FCS NC. Nor will he win an NC at the FBS level. That's my prediction; those are my words; and I'll stick with them. I've seen this act before. We all have. Coach Prime is just the latest shiny toy in the ESPN / CFB soap opera. Did you watch his meeting with the old CU team? Riddle me this: do you remember, in your lifetime, ever seeing the media coverage like that of any new coach meeting his team for the first time?

Here's what you don't get: Coach Prime is not going to be satisfied being an 8-4 / 9-3 coach at the University of Colorado. This year, next year, and maybe one more. But if he doesn't win...or at least play for...a Natty at CU (and he won't), then once Shedeur and Shilo are gone...so is he. If not that year, then no more than one year after.

Coach Prime always has, and always will, need that limelight. And he won't be getting it in 2027 as the head coach at a 9-3 CU team.

Wait, what?

Wait and see. I'll be here for you to remind me if I'm wrong.

I'm not.

Go Vols.
i don't care about anything else you said, the part i quoted was simply absolute nonsense. I don't think deion will ever win a nc fwiw.

The interesting thing about the Duke win is that the ESPN cover story about it is all about Sweeney and Clemson and what they did wrong. Nothing meaningful about Duke and their coaching.

Deion definitely has a ceiling as a coach.
He can get hired at a program that is a contender down on its luck, but no way he ever gets a NFL job, which is his ultimate goal.
NFL players play for the spotlight. They will never endure the coach hogging the spotlight, and all the owners would know that.

but your logic doesn't fit, or at least make a ton of sense.

You said he couldn't make the step up from FSU to the NFL....he did. I am pretty sure most people still consider him at least one of the best to play the position, at any level. Especially down here in Atlanta, they love him as a player.

that right there invalidates your entire set up to the argument.

the better argument is that coaching is a different skillset than playing. and just because he was able to be great from playing college to playing in the NFL doesn't mean the same success will translate to a coaching change from the FCS to the FBS.

and for me coaching is always a relative thing. Deion will likely be a good/great coach, FOR COLORADO. he doesn't need to win a NC there to be good or great. Getting them to a bowl game in year one would be legit COTY territory. and that would go for anyone at Colorado. If you argument is that he won't find Bama/Saban levels of success at Colorado and thus is a bad coach, then you have too high of standards.

If you standard is that he is a mercenary and probably won't be coaching at CU because some other better school comes calling, that also isn't much of a fair metric. No coach would stay at Colorado if a good P4 program comes calling. 2027 would be his 5th year at CU if he stuck around that long. The average tenure in the SEC is currently less than 5 years, 4.78, and there are probably a couple coaches north of that that are coaching for their job this year. Even the Big 12 is averaging only 5.4 years, but Gundy's 19 years are throwing that average pretty hard. and again several of those coaches are probably coaching for their jobs. so thats another crappy standard to hold to.

Colorado won onengame last season. Let them have their day. They have another test this week against the Huskers. Let's see if they are a contender or a pretender.
Not exactly something Nebraska has the digs to make CU prove either way. Rhule is a good coach I think, but he was left a disaster to sort out.

TCU has lost 3 of their last 4. Go look at how many points they gave up on that 4 game stretch. When you're that bad, high school kids can score at will. I will say now what I said a while back, he hired some really good coaches especially Lewis who IMO is one of the better coaches in football. They did really good considering how bad they were a year ago but it's not hype train yet. TCU hasn't stopped anyone.

Watch what happens when Dieon faces adversity. He'll throw those kids under the bus. I truly believe that.

ESPN has been pushing his brand very hard. Add in his NFL celebrity status to their advertisement and you get the turnover Colorado has with players that aren't that bad. All I can say is he better be glad ESPN exists cause they couldn't have turned that roster over without his face on ESPN every day.

Exactly, why isn’t Duke and their coach getting the praise they deserve? All I’ve heard from everyone is how bad Colorado will beat Nebraska Saturday. I honestly think Nebraska wins by at least 14 points. The only reason they beat TCU is because they lost most of the talent that took them to the playoffs last year. Just my opinion though

Rhule is a very good coach, but I don't think he has much of a roster yet.

When below average teams play, the best player on the field can win you some ballgames. Shedeur Sanders looked like a man playing among boys in those highlights.
Sanders was hitting some tight windows with his WRs.

I don't think Nebraska is better than TCU.
Colorado probably wins another one Saturday.

nebraska looked like nebraska playing against Minnesota. I think Colorado may fall a bit back down to earth, but they should have enough to beat Nebraska.

Because "Clemson's dynasty is over!!" is a much more interesting narrative than "Duke might be pretty good at football."

For the record, I am one to never back down when I think I am right. It has bit me in the ass more than once over the years, but I take some pride in the fact that...for the most part...anytime I look in the mirror I see a man looking back at me.

Mistakes? Many. Sometimes, the man in the mirror looking back at me is a complete dumbass.

That being said, I want to apologize...publicly...to the both of you. While I may disagree with some of your positions, the fact is that you were right and I was wrong. Deion Sanders...Prime Time...Coach Prime...is one of the greatest athletes our generation has ever seen. While I think he might have been a better baseball player in the long run, it's evident that he trusted his skills in football more that he did baseball, and that was his decision to make. Either way, he's a winner. Hall of Fame type winner.

I suppose my issue with him is his ego, which is Zeppelin-sized. He did great things at Jackson State. I did not care for his entrance, or his actions at CU, but I get why he did it his way. That's classic Deion. I think he will do well at CU, but I don't think he wins a Natty. There's only so far that your reputation, talent, ego, and braggadocio can take you, and I think 9-3 is about it at CU.

At FSU? Who knows?

So there's where I am. I don't hate CP, but I don't like his ego, or some of his methods. And I have absolutely no issue with either one of you.

So I owe you an apology. A public one. And this is it.

At the end of the day, we're all Vol fans. Anyone my age, or close to it, has lived through the good and the bad. We've seen the top of the mountain, and the bottom of the valley. But through thick and thin...no matter what...we're Vol fans. This is the glue that binds us through the tough times. and keeps us close in the good.

I reserve the right to call you out in the future if I think you are wrong, and I expect you to bust my ass when I'm way off-base, as I was here. That's what the "glue" is all about. We keep one another in check.

Go Vols, and God Bless.

I agree with your assessment on Deion completely. I don't dislike him for all his flash as a player and I do think he's a good coach and I think he knows how to drive hype very well, but I don't think it results in a title (at least at Colorado).

The same thing that's driven his rapid rise to stardom as a coach is the same thing that could lead him to a catastrophic failure. He had the goods to back it up as a ball player, and I think it even enhanced the fear that quarterbacks had throwing to his side of the field, but he's got to do the same as coach or there will eventually be a rebound effect.

I appreciate your apology as well. We are, as you said all Vols!

I appreciate the apology, and didnt think it was necessary. Nothing wrong with an honest discussion. Even if it gets a bit tense. Deion did make himself a lightning rod, but I think he knows how to work it to make him and his teams now, better.

Go Vols!
