Combating Russian Election Interference

Opinion | Mitch McConnell, Too, Welcomes Russian Interference

Reminded me a warning David Frum provided inThe Atlantic:
"If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism."

An Exit From Trumpocracy
Congressional defeats will weaken alternative power centers within the Republican Party. If they lose the House or the Senate or many governorships—or some combination of those defeats—then Republicans may feel all the more compelled to defend their president. The party faithful may interpret any internal criticism of Trump as a treasonable surrender to Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. As the next presidential race nears, it will become ever more imperative to rally around Trump. The more isolated Trump becomes within the American political system as a whole, the more he will dominate whatever remains of the conservative portion of that system. He will devour his party from within.

We are witnessing this.

Might as well. All the Dems have signed it for their side.
There are a lot more ideas floating around on that side than the Nationalist stance of Border walls and tariffs. How about stopping Russia from f***ing with our elections with some sanctions or, at the least, name calling? Hell he hasn't even said "cut it out" .

There are ideas, and there are bad ideas. I thought Obama told them to "knock it off," yet it happened on his watch.

What are the Democrats ideas? What has the House done for the American people since they gained control of the House?

Kind of off topic but also kind of funny... in a tweet earlier today, Trump talked about a meeting with "the Prince of Whales".... and yes, that really is how he spelled the country in Great Britain known as "Wales".

So, tell me more about how dumb and mistake prone Joe Biden is. LOL!

"House Democrats have already introduced legislation to bolster election security (election security act) and would most likely work with the Senate to put together a compromise proposal should a bill pass that chamber. But McConnell refuses to consider any legislation on election security during this congressional term. For the Senate majority leader, the problem has already been solved, and this rare show of bipartisan cooperation doesn’t matter.

'Grim reaper' Mitch McConnell buries plans to protect America from election interference

I believe there are two or three bipartisan proposals in the Senate....but McConnell does nothing...trump is venal and dumb...McConnell is pure evil

Are you trying to take up my argument that the Senate hasn't done sh!t?

Oh yea, the house passe the disaster relief package without the border wall.

What concrete steps, if any, has the Trump administration publicly taken to:

(1) Determine the scope, nature and bredth of alleged foreign interference in the 2016 Presidential race;

(2) Identify the nation(s) responsible; and

(3) Prevent it from happening again.

Not asking for a rehash of the intelligence community's findings here, rather looking for leadership on the issue by Trump.

Perhaps a better question is, why did Black Snake, after being warned on many many occasions about Russian interference in the elections, do absolutely nothing?
I’ll tell you, he did absolutely nothing, because he thought Hillary would easily win anyway and he and the DemocRats had an insurance policy already in place with all the US intelligence agencies and foreign intelligence agencies as well.
The real crimes of collusion with foreign entities and illegal espionage of US citizens resides right in the lap of Hillary Clinton, the DNC and o’l Black Snake himself!

This is a less than spectacular thread.

A voter would have to be a complete moron in order to be influenced by Russian campaign meddling.

Well, we have multiple individuals on this forum that believe that the Russians changed the election!!!

I think I'm more worried our own government tried to hack Georgia's polls. Sure, they said they were just testing it. But it's more likely a party who would rather impeach, bring in more states, stack the court, use FISA courts to spy on rival campaigns, use illegal votes, etc. than actually work on a winning message, would love an opportunity to rig an election. Not like the press would call them out on it. Russia spamming Twitter is not my concern.

Well, we have multiple individuals on this forum that believe that the Russians changed the election!!!

Unless they went in and electronically changed votes or somehow sent Russian spies in to vote in key swing states they didn’t do jack squat to change the election. Running silly adds on Facebook and Wikileaks did not change the election. Voters in key swing states were fed up with the Democratic crap base that saw them running into the ground and came up with nothing but weak solutions and failed promises. Couple that with a candidate who was so high on herself in thinking that she didn’t even have to campaign in those areas to carry them and you get the outcome that happened. In the meantime Trump went hard into the rust belt states and campaigned on America First and bringing real jobs back vs. tech and minimal wage jobs.

This is what Dems aren’t seeing. People in key areas of the election were sick of the current status quo that was going to continue with Hilary. The Dems felt like those folks were in her back pocket and they weren’t and it failed them.

It was not election rigging and if the dems continue to pursue the election rigging stuff without addressing their shortsightedness they are going to have the same outcome in 2020 no matter who they put up there.
