My second point is that you're original post discounted the victory and you made a point of highlighting a "molehill" (in your own words).  I assume it was influenced by a disappointing loss - very understandable -but I thought it was ironic that you then choose to accuse others of having a slanted view.

I didn't mean to discount the victory. Until the 2nd half, TN was not producing. And in the 2nd half, LSU defense was abysmal. So my general opinion of the game was that both teams had flaws. Maybe your problem lies in Erik Ainge, I don't know, I'm not concerned with that, as you might guess. And I'm not here to discuss the technicalities of the 60 minutes of football that was played.

I would explain my point, but it'd be about the 3rd or forth time of repeating myself. I think those that disagree with me are biased. I can't believe my sentiment caused 4 pages of discussion. Maybe because my opinion is so stupidly inconsequential? Be that as it may, it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Congrats to the Tennesse vols for showing all the heart and determination that makes you a winner. Your team certainly deserved to win the game tonight because, as a unit, the team never gave up. You coach sumed it up perfectly by stating that Rick Claussen's story is one of the best. You entire teams story is truely great. Kudos on a hard fought victory.

Thanks, lsupro. I know this had to be a very hard loss to swallow, but I believe you guys have one heck of a football team. Good luck the rest of the way!

Thanks pro, we all appreciate the kind words and know it was hard to type. It was a great game. Makes me feel a little better about 2001, but not really. Your team put up a fight and a good one at that.

Thanks LSUPRO, not use too those comments from rival teams. Tenn just never gave up and it looked like LSU just quit doing what they were doing in the 1st half too soon. A tale of two halves no doubt!!

To be honest, it is not a hard loos for me to swallow. After being very involved with the athletic dept for over 10 years, I will tell you that the loss was deserved. As a matter of cate, they need to lose two or three more times to get their priorities in line. This I defended their actions on keeping the game in Baton Rouge and playing Sunday. There are far bigger moves that go on behind te scenes that are borderline lunacy. Right is right and wong is wrong. Miles is a nice guy but is not the "right fit" for LSU as Skip Bertman said when Miles' hiring was announced. Recruiting can only take you so far. This team lacked heart and dicipline. Under Saban, this woud never have happened... I say that and I am no fan of Saban personally, (quite frankly, he's a prick... but he wasn't hired to win personality contests, only football games)

Cramping in teh second half was rediculous. Lack of vigor and drive to put the game away, was even worse.

It is TN who has the better team. More heart, more size, more drive. It showed tonight.

Kudos again to The TN players and staff.

No.. not really. Learning how to lose is just as important as learning how to win. My words wer just honest. All of my posts have been. Thank yo for the complement though.

Continued sucess in 2005 and maybe we can meet again in Dec? :)

What a great football game to watch... mistakes on bothsides of the ball and all. These are two teams that coudl really be something special, should they realize the talent within each respective team.

NOW, I think you have found your QB. :)

I agree, you have found your QB. I was praying they didn't put Clausen in because Ainge had so many problems, it was going my way. I hate to have to go to work tomorrow and see the faces of all the UT fans that had conceeded to defeat at halftime when I saw them last. I'm gonna catch so much hell. :disappointed:

Anyway... like it's already been said, that was truly a two-half game. You guys screwed up and so did we. I hate to say this, but UT earned that win. :shakehead:

Oh How The Mighty Have Fallen..A Look back at the greatest collapse in LSU History

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the most disgraceful, most hideous, and at times most comical performance in LSU's storied football program, many consequences are necassary. The tigers came out dominating the overmatched Volunteers by playing LSU football; what was to follow is the most disrespectful blow in a respected programs history. With a national television audience tuned away from ABC's MNF due to a runaway blowout, LSU's collapse at the hands of SEC rival Tennessee hurts recruiting, BCS chances, and most importantly the dignity of a once mighty national champion. Serious changes are mandatory, and must come at once. Bo Pelini, "acclaimed" Defensive Coordinator, is the architect of the most shameful losses in Nebraska (62-36 to colorado) and Oklahoma's (55-19 to USC) storied Programs. Well Pelini lived up to his resume in tonight's shellacking at the hands of a quarterback with more of a bow and arrow than a cannon for an arm. RickJimmyCasey Clausen cannot and has not shown the ability to complete passes down the field. Bo Pelini apparently has never recognized this, considering the fact that he played his corners 9-12 yards off the ball on the most important momentum changing possession of tonight's game. With LSU up 21-0, Tennessee took the field after being bruised and scarred by a blitzing, pressing, relentess first half Tiger defense. Certainly, Backup QB Rick Clausen enjoyed the spacious cushions the Tiger Defensive backs were instructed to give. Easily completing 6 yard hooks, the vol's swiftly moved down the field. Tennesse was never blitzed nor pressured on the drive, and took advantage scoring to make it 21-7. LSU was never the same. With a tie ball game, one timeout, and 2:02 lit on the game clock, the Tigers had possession on their 30 with a chance to undergo a game-winning drive led by reknowned clutch sharp-shooter JaMarcus Russell. It can be argued that Russell has performed best in the clutch (Oregon St., Iowa, Arizona St.) Yet Miles made the most crucial decision of the night, a decision that cost him the ball game and perhaps his job. Miles decided the Tigers should runout the clock and head to overtime although college football overtime is a crap-shoot at best in determining victors. Throughout the collapse, Miles showed the "Les Miles Face", a face proving he didn't belong on the stage his football team was performing on, a night game at tiger stadium against the #10 team in the land, 21-0 halftime lead...those circumstances would usually point to late touchdowns by Matt Flynn and maybe a glimpse of Ryan Perriloux. Tonight Miles allowed his team to choke away the game in a monumental collaspe, and his job should be the repercussions of such a mistake. Pat Hill, Butch Davis, Will Muschamp, someone that can handle the stage of a game of tonight's magnitude, those are candidates for the LSU job a job hopefully vacant following the season. It's always tough to breath down the stretch when one's hands are around one's throat. Following the wrath of two hurricanes, LSU had all the emotion, all the intangibles needed to win tonight's game but lacked the coaching. -Alex Lorio

over matched?

lol that is funny. we shot ourselves in the foot and gave them 14 points. then totally dominated their offense all night except for one trick play.

these lsu ppl are at the top of my most hated list now. passing florida and alabama for the time being.

we deserved this game. look at the time of poss. was 35 minutes to 24.

they had the same amout of turnovers. less yards.

they did have one more thing than us. WHINING.

ut is a goot football team, and eveyone one who plays us from here on out will fear us. i guarantee that.

I'm totally with you on this one Logan...I dont know what it is about the Vols, but whenever they win on the road, they love to taunt the fans/do whatever to show off. Case in point : effing Clausen leading the band at the Swamp the 2 times he beat us there, and before last weeks game against UF in Gainesville when I was in the student section like an hour before the game, quite a few vol players came up to us making some rude gestures, including throat slashing among others. :bad: Oh well, I'm pretty sure they werent doing much later that night at around 12:30. Thank God we beat them....

Throat slashing? You mean a Gator would never do that, especially on national TV? Get real, man. The whole world saw it.

Not wanting to make another thread on it, I figure I'd put this in here.

Seems I missed two incidents that would have made me even more angry:

Tennessee team’s behavior outrageous

For starters, I would like to say that the LSU vs. UT game was well played and I harbor no ill will toward UT for defeating us. However, it is the UT players conduct that has led me to write this letter.

I was severely disappointed in UT's sportsmanship.

First of all the UT player who made the wining touchdown made an obscene gesture toward the student section after throwing the football into the student section.

This gesture was not appreciated by the students and other fans who were watching. Then another teammate took their UT flag, brought it onto the field and planted it on the eye of the Tiger in Death Valley.

This is a sign of disrespect many LSU fans, including me, took as a personal blow to not only our beloved team, but also to our campus, our city and our state. By disrespecting a state that has been through so much in the pass two months surprised me because I had thought that a fellow southern state would show some of its southern hospitality by winning gracefully, I was wrong.

We had open our arms and welcomed UT to our stadium and took our defeat well, but to rub it into our faces by mocking us is juvenile and I expected that even our archrivals would have more respect than to commit such an act.

Finally, when LSU started to line up to shake hands with the UT players as a sing of good sportsmanship, UT walked away.

When I saw these acts, my opinion of UT has plummeted.

I had thought that UT had more class, manners, and respect for their opponents.

The UT football team has lost all respect from me, and I’m sure many others on campus.

I can only hope that their actions do not reflect UT campus and Tennessee as a state.

. . . it's a letter to the editor written by a student. A little melodramatic, don't you think?

Our bus got vandalized, some players may have done some stuff in celebration that you didn't like . . . Stuff happens . . . We all need to just move on.

I guess we can say bad sportsmanship on behalf of a few ignorant drunken LSU fans about the bus incident.I wish people could just move on.As far as what our players did or didn't do,it's part of college football and alot of time after a big game and a big win atheletes don't make the best judgements in celebration.
