Comedy Central's Roast of James Franco

I was disappointed before I even watched it. I didn't want to see Rogan, Hill, Samberg or Hader. I wanted to see people who actually make their living on a stage. That's what made the other roasts so great. If they want to bring in new roasters, bring in Tosh, Dave Chappelle, Ron White, etc. it was no surprise that Silverman (a comedian) and Ross (also a comedian) killed it.

Comedy Central went too mainstream on this one, and it hurt them.

The sad part was... Samberg tried to be a poor man's Norm Mcdonald and do the "clean roast." Hader decided to just be a new sketch character basically. Hader works on South Park, I would've hoped he could kill it as a mean joke teller, but he didn't.

I would absolutely love a roast dais of Tosh, Chappele, and Ron White. Throw in Lampanelli and Giraldo, Jeselnik and maybe gottfried, then let the host be a good friend of the roaster, and bam. You have yourself a show everyone watches.

You do realize that Giraldo's been dead for 3 years, right? The rest would comprise one of the best dais' you could put together right now though.

Speaking of Gottfried, Aflac doesn't know what to do with that duck ever since they fired him.

Lulz. I was flipping through the channels a couple months back, and saw him on celebrity wife swap or some crap.

He did Rachel Vs Guy Celebrity Cook Off one season on Food Network and all he did the whole time was make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. :) He didn't last very long.

Here is a good Alec Baldwin story I heard on the Dax Shepard podcast. I can't remember if it was Dax or a guest who told it.

A young comic was doing a live show...some kind of charity event, and Baldwin was the headliner. Alec came over to the young comic and asked him what his act was, because Alec didn't want to cover any of the same material. The young comic said, "well, I was going to make some jokes about Kim Bassinger." and as soon as the words were out of his mouth he regretted it. Baldwin, without missing a beat asked, "are you going to call her a f****** b****?"

That seems like a pretty lousy lineup. He must be hated by most celebs. It will probably be just as unfunny as the one for Chevy Chase. Bob Sagget’s roast was one of the best in the last few years.

I think it's a pretty good lineup, TBH. Griffin is as good of an athlete as you can ask for. Messing is a good, wide-appeal female presence. Redd and Ross are funny comics. McHale is one of my all-time favorite celebs and De Niro is the fkn king. Jenner and Hayes are whatever. I bet Hayes outdoes himself and the jokes about Jenner should be pretty good.

It's gotta be better than Bruce Willis.

How do you Roast Alec Baldwin and not have Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey? I think McHale could be good, Ross will kill, no clue who Redd is, and I dont care to hear the rest attempt to roast someone.

Morgan, Fey, Epps, Tosh, Burr, Ross, Carr, and McHale would be really good. If you need an athlete use Dolph Zigler he was pretty good on Roast Battle.

Apparently there was a Spike roast of Alec Baldwin 2 years ago that did involve a lot of the 30 Rock cast. Been there, done that. Not sure why Fey is not doing either one. She is a pretty busy person (new show, interactive Kimmy Schmidt special, she's doing a voice acting project right now).

The new status quo with roasts is to have a bunch of non-comics, hence Blake Griffin, Messing, etc.

Messing is at least in the acting community along with Baldwin even if she's not a 100% comic. Chances are they've worked together or are friends.

Blake Griffin just seems out of place. Like when they got what's his name from Jersey Shore to be a roaster a few years ago.

Or when they got Shaq to do Bieber. Did Peyton Manning know Rob Lowe?
