Commodity shortages

Absolutely for life sustainment.....but yet a miserable envious bunch and need for trillions. A spoiled citizenry willing to kill the goose and conceed to a political narrative.
Newsflash...the narrative is a scam.
The politics of envy. Just as potent Today as when Lenin uncorked the same in Petrograd in 1917

Sure. And our financial situation has never been worse. So maybe we are at the tipping point of oh ****. I get no one wants to think about it. But here we are.
It's almost like stuff shouldnt be the most important thing in our lives, and people shouldnt put status in such artifacts.

When do you estimate this will have a significant impact on your life?

Smaller back then. Along with the houses, cars, meals, entertainment choices etc. Which would you prefer?

Back then when houses, cars, meals and entertainment were more affordable.

What do you consider "significant"?

It really all depends on where you draw that line. It's easily arguable we've already passed that threshold.

There's exceptions in some categories (e.g., paying $$$ to go to a football game for entertainment) but mostly the average American has more of all of the above than they did 50 years ago. Bigger houses, better cars, more food, more entertainment choices, etc.

Entertainment IMO isn't better now than it was even in the late 70s early 80s unless you're talking about porn.

We don't have more food now, we just have more fast food and prepackaged food.

Bigger houses mean nothing except bigger mortgages.

Better cars? That is the only debatable item in your list although how many cars produced within the last 30 years will be on the road in another 30 as "classics"?

Housing, for example.

I dont see too many people building new cracker jack houses, or biying simple cars or trucks.

The standard of living has artificially risen too high. Instead of it being an actual metric of what people can afford, it's now a metric of how much debt burden the system will allow individuals to take. And right now that is just "yes".

More debt too.

wouldn't that put upward pressure on lumber prices when they all start back?
I think the problem is that there really wasn't supply issues driving the price up over the last 4-5 months. There were several stories and reports of lumber yards having plenty of supply but were having difficulties in either the supply chain or some other beauracratic issue.
