HP's are absolute garbage. all the law students in my first year class (we got a huge HP discount through our law school) were trying to sell theirs off after the first year because they were so awful (crashed all the time, bulky as hell, slow!).
computers have come a long way since your first yr in law school I can assure you. The PC I built 4yrs ago ran about $2k and was top of the line then. It's an entry level (at best) in today's world.
I use my HP laptop for more than a law student/lawyer ever will and it is more than adequate.
how do we know you're not going to go all ksush on us and just ask questions to prove your own genius?OK...so I'm actually willing to take advice. I'm thinking about getting my wife a machine for Christmas...she doesn't need much at all. She needs to be able to install itunes on it and have a functional internet browser. The heaviest games she will play will be those within the web browser. I'm thinking about a laptop...but she would probably be just as happy with a desktop.
Can anyone recommend something that is as cheap as her computing needs are few? Reliability is a must, since she is sick and tired of the current desktop she has to use when my laptop isn't around.
The only two companies that make a reliable laptop anymore are Lenovo and Apple. Period. (I say this sorrowfully -- what has happened to the laptop industry in recent years sucks.) If you hate Lenovo, then get a Macbook or Macbook Pro.
Running XP only on an Apple laptop sort of defeats the point, though. It's like buying a Ferrari to drive to the grocery store twice a week. On second thought, just get a Dell.
