Concerned about LSU but...

At least our schedule next year along with all the young talent we had this year screams title run if Russell sticks around....

what about periloux? is he just going to sit around? that guy was wanted by everyone in the country....after next year, he only has 2 years of eligibility left right?

i am worried about our wounded qb playing a very fast defense and the possibility of a freshman playing one of the best secondarys in the country. that and our d-line getting pressure on russell, but also keeping him in the pocket. lsu seems due for a big win and we seem due for a loss.

???? What? Jamarcus Russell runs about as good as, well, Ainge. Out of the pocket is exactly where we want him. Get him on the move and he'll make all kinds of mistakes, or throw the ball away. LSU's running game is decent, but not great by any means ( they avg. about as much as UF on the ground). The way LSU will win is if Russell gets to sit inside a cozy little pocket and work his way through the progressions.

Correct. If Russell leaves, we are by no means in bad shape. A slug fest will come up between RP and Matt Flynn for the fall. My guess is that Flynn would come out on top.

RP is locked here at this point because if he transfers, by the time he could actually play 1A ball he would have been at the helm of LSU.

With the next RP already has LSU to a extremely hard commit....feels good to be secure at QB for the next 6 years or so. :dance2:

Well, Russell doesn't run for yardage very good, but he scrambles quite well and is impossible to take down with an arm tackle at 6-6, 252. He actually has been making great plays while scrambling. It allows him to use his amazing arm to improvise a pass to an open man. I've never seen anybody that can throw the ball off the wrong foot, while running right, and hit an open receiver 30-to-50 yards downfield on the left like Russell has done several times.

The errors Russell has made involve poor clock and game management or not reading the defense properly and checking off to the wrong play. They don't generally come from pressure on the quarterback.

I don't worry when I see Russell scramble. I worry when I see him check off at the line. If I were the Tennessee DC, I'd be trying to come up with pre-snap defensive coverages that confuse Russell, rather than trying to find ways to sack him. LSU doesn't give up many sacks.

There is little doubt that Russell poses more threat with his arm than he does his legs. His pocket scrambling my just wear UT's thin D line out. UT will have to bring LBs to have any shot at real pressure.

I saw a thread on an LSU board, where the poster was trying to keep his fellow Tigers from getting to carried away about their chances in Saturday's game.

He pointed out, that with a win over the Vols, LSU can tie their longest ever winning streak ever over Tennessee at ONE straight.

We will need to establish a running game, something we've struggled with this year, and get pressure on Russell.

It's going to be a tough game, LSU remembers our overtime win last year and they want revenge.

Revenge is overrated. It will come down to the same old things...

1. blocking
2. special teams
3. turnovers
4. coaching
5. big plays

LSU is a very good football team. They seemed more athletic than Florida in the game at Gainesville earlier this month but they shot themselves in the foot so many times they could not recover.

If they play relatively mistake-free, they have an excellent chance at winning Saturday.

No agrument here but would like to add that I think the same applies to the Vols. Mistakes will kill either team.

Alabama and SC games were close and LSU is very hungry. UT hasn't looked as good the last 2 weeks as they had earlier in the season particularly against Cal.

LSU lost to Florida and Auburn, and haven't been a highly ranked team yet. They will be very hungry to prove themselves.

The close game last year they let slip out of their hands still smarts. I think LSU will play their best game of the year against UT. If UT doesn't bring their A+ game they will most likely lose. This will be a very tough game, the toughest yet.

more often than not this year, when we've been told our opponent is the "best in the nation" at something, it hasn't panned out. Maybe that's because they just weren't, or maybe it's because we're better than we're getting credit for. I don't have any illusions about this one, but I won't be surprised at all if we win and look pretty good doing it. Everyone in our camp knows the importance of this one...Cal all over again, I hope.

LSU was ranked #6 when they lost to Auburn and still ranked #10 when they lost to Florida. LSU remains the highest-ranked two-loss team in the country at #13.

Lets not forget we tore up their secondary last year with Rick "noodle arm" Clausen. And I imagine Ainge has something to prove after his game against them last year.

i hope you're right seeing as how we got to their place next week....check out an ark game if you get a chance....they started off sluggish, and still won against Bama and Vandy...probably played the two worst games of the year, in conference anyway, and still won. thoroughly have beaten down everyone else.

it'll be interesting to see that ARK/USC game this weekend.
I've seen Ark play a few times this season. They're alright, but not THAT good. IMO borderline top 25 at best, and only because they're kind of an upset threat. They beat down an Auburn team that would have otherwise won with just a single, solid quarter of football. Instead the Eagle-Tiger-Plainsmen never got off the bus.

Dead-on assessment of LSU, and IMO should accurately describe the coaching legacy of Les Miles in Baton Rouge after all is said and done.

I would want him to leave. He hasn't exactly set the woods on fire this year against top ten teams. That might change Sat., but our secondary(with Ryan Karl's help) can hang with anyone.

In another thread I read where B. Cox was still sore from the LSU game. May I remind you Cox was sacked five times in the first half against Fla.We've only given up seven sacks in eight games (2nd in the nation).

Yeah, I've always been a bit of a Flynn supporter.

But I guess part of me is worried the Peach Bowl was a fluke, and it is human nature to prefer the known to the unknown.

The more I look at this game, the more I like our chances.

Coming into the season, all we heard about was Cal and how amazing they are, and how much talent they have. All of the Cal comments were based on a team from last year that didn't beat a ranked opponent, and we fared pretty well.

Fast forward to the present, and all we hear is about the talent of LSU, and yet, what have they done? Sure they whipped Miami in the Sugar Bowl last year (how good does that win look now?), and they put up impressive numbers against the likes of ULL, Tulane, and Miss St. Yet they haven't beaten a ranked opponent nor won a road game.

I'm not claiming this will be an easy win for the Vols, but "talent" does not always translate into wins.

Yeah...Miami was rotting last year, but they were a lot better than this year.

I imagine getting most of your coaching staff fired in all one fell swoop wrecks havoc on overall team chemistry.

Yes, Cal is overrated. But Arkansas has gone on to struggle with bad opponnents. Cal has crushed everybody else so far except Washington.
