confessions of a bammer .

Not a bammer quote but a gator at work who said "Urban Meyer is a scumbag, worst thing to happen to UF in years".... This is a SHE by the way who prides herself on being a "sportsnut"..

I have an ex brother in law who used to be a Nebraska fan but I'm the past few years became a Bama fan. He swears up and down he never liked Nebraska. He cannot name more than 3 players and doesn't know any of the coaches names outside of Nick Saban.

49er fans are all bandwagoners that came from nowhere.

Not this 49er fan...been a fan since back in the John Brodie, Wilbur Jackson, and Marlon Briscoe days...was thrilled when Walsh became coach and they put it on the Cowboys...Dem boys wuz good fer a long time...

One of the funniest MNF lines ever was a 49er game--and the camera captures a gorgeous blonde in Candlestick...absolute beautiful!! And then...she picked her nose with her painted fingernails....Dandy Don Meredith didn't miss a beat and said: "Well, nobody's perfect!" .:salute:

...I still hate the 49ers for beating Dallas in the 94-95 NFC Championship game....Ruining what should have been 4 in a row for the 'Boys. :banghead2:

That happens with teams when you reach Bama's level of success. It happened with Miami and USC.

I live in BAMA and HATE BAMA and love the Vols! Living in Tennessee has nothing to do with it! Loved them in the 90s, love them now!

Bama has the biggest band wagon fans of all time.

No $hit! I never could understand why people want to be band wagon fans. Is it because they have been losers their whole life? And it just feels good to be on the team that is winning right now, so they feel like a winner.

So what exactly is fundamentally wrong with having bandwagon fans? It is a sign of current success, right? I'm not talking about ones that poses as a longtime fan, but the fact that people wear Oregon or Alabama or A&M logos on shirts and hats is a compliment to the team.

What does it mean for a program down on it's luck to have 10-20K empty seats at games? Their bandwagon fans are now cheering for someone else?

Conversely, it could be they are a 'bandwagon' fan because they are winners in everything they do, won't support losers, like to support winners, and don't give a hoot about sticking with one sports team, or even seeing that it should somehow be a rule for fanhood.
They know a LOT about the game(s), the coaches, the players and the rules, and don't at all feel tied down.

I've got a neighbor like that. Blows my mind. Plays fantasy, football and basketball, in 3 or 4 leagues at a time, can quote oodles of player stats off the top of his head. Lives in front of his TV on Sunday, records ALL NFL games while watching Redzone, and switches back and forth faster than I can keep up. Before they had kids, his wife was the same. He says, even better than he.

Follows the players, not the teams.

It's the ones who act like they know, such as the one being described here by the OP, that are a hoot, and a bother. Not the ones who really do know, like my neighbor. Well, he's a bother in a different way. I'm almost embarrassed to watch a game with him and feel ignert.
