Bachmann has said:

-- that Obama is a socialist

-- that Pelosi or Obama backed legislation is the "crown jewel of socialism"

Turns out, her family owns a farm. Her personal stake has grown from $2,000 to $50,000, according to her disclosures.

The problem is that between 1995 and 2006 the farm got $250,000 in federal subsidies!

So, which is it. Is Bachmann an incredible hypocrite, whining about socialism on the one hand, whilst accepting federal government subsidies on the other?

Or, does she just not understand that a family farm taking a quarter mill from the feds over the course of a decade is pretty much the definition of socialism?

You decide. My money is on moron.

You mean like someone pretending to be an undecided voter and independent when their posting pattern clearly indicates their mind is already made up?

I don't completely view giving money to businesses the same as giving to non workers though. There is a difference.

Just like every other politician...do as I say, not as I do.

I agree but what sets this apart imo is that she is personally benefitting from it, accepting it, then blasting it as pure evil.

Seems pretty obvious to me that she is simple minded on the subject and does not understand that there are "socialist" aspects to a lot of things. Its just way over her head.

so she can't call Obama and Pelosi socialists without being a hypocrite or a moron? Not really sure why that's true

Kinda like you always starting anti Republican threads but never doing the same for the Democrat side?

Like giving Obama and Holder a pass on Fast and Furious?

Like always being 100% partisan but not having the guts to admit it and cloaking yourself as a indie when you damn well know you're lying?

Kinda like that?

There isn't a sinlge Dem in congress right now that voted for tax increases while not paying their share, I'm sure.

Did she vote for the subsidies? Taking money that is available, imo, doesn't classify her as a hypocrite so long as she didn't vote for it. I am against all forms of socialism, but you bet your a$$ I took the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit. It didn't change the way I feel about socialism, but the money was there.

So the choices couldn’t be hypocrite or moron. It’s “epic” hypocrite or moron. What makes it epic?

There is a difference, but it's hard to say which is worse, IMO. Corporate welfare or social welfare?

I know this is the common refrain, but I am not sure how I feel about this.

She is an ideologue to be sure. She is usually far more consistent than many of her wishy washy colleagues. She, at least, voted for the banks to fail which is consistent with her philosophy, unlike the other sophists in her Party.

Agriculture - another tremendous endemic market failure. And it's hard to have a more epic fail than on the backbone of civilization.

@IP - Castro is a revolutionary to the tip of his cigar.... Great new avatar, although I did like the Robert Redford.

So, how many examples can people drum up on a politician saying one thing and doing another? This is not exclusive to one party. This goes all the way to the top.

Also, she has a relatively small stake in the farm. I don't see how her parents being the main party accepting the benefits means she is a hypocrite. Are you going to tell your parents not to accept benefits because it is against your political views?

This wasn't needed to prove she's a moron.

Of course... anyone who is conservative must be a "moron" since they disagree with you smart people, right? That is especially true if they are female or black and choose to think for themselves. Only morons step out of line. Only morons choose to defy the classifications they've been put in by the left.

Who does she think she is disagreeing with you smart people?

What?...because they produce more than just Pringles?

First of all, capitalism allowed for innovations in agriculture that made us so productive we can not only feed the whole world, we can make it fat (so much for Malthus' theory).

Second, today agriculture in the US has a lot more government involvement than most industries, so pointing to it as an example of free market failure is nonsensical.
