conspiracy theory

So this is my conspiracy.. What if Butch intentionally didn't over achieve in the Oregon game.. Not didn't try, or tried to lose, but once he realised we were going to lose, he just coasted... Knowing that Florida was in a bye week and at home watching.. What if he went about our schedule with the thought process that if we lost to Oregon, no biggie, cause we can just win the east, win the sec, and make a BCS bowl.. What if he was saving the playbook and everything we really have for Florida?? What if he wants them to come in cocky and way over confident and our guys coming in pissed off from a loss.. And wants us to start our SEC schedule with a big splash win, and momentum going into the Georgia game?? What if the coach we all love is really just playing "the game" inside the game? Are there others out there that has these thoughts?? What if this "it" that Butch gets is really bigger than all of us, and he is the real "MAD HATTER"??? I think everyone should take this stuff into consideration, especially if we DO in fact beat Florida....

I'm some what joking, but a tiny bit serious ;)

This is absolutely crazy talk. But, i admit i thought the same thing after the game. Would be Genius because the Oregon game really didn't matter, and Butch knows nothing would be better for this program and the fanbase than a win over the hated gators!

Was kinda my thought even before the game. It wouldn't matter if we played our A game with the whole play book, we would not have beaten Oregon, period! I think they've been planning for UF more than anything!!

No bUTch didn't go into the game with that mentality. At least I hope he didn't. He may have dumbed it down after a while. When you're down like we were at the half, virtually everything would have to wrong for them and everything go right for us to have even gotten back into the game. The game plan should have been simplified anyway to have kept the score close, but it wasn't. It should have been smash mouth running the ball and an occasional play action pass to keep them honest.

What "IF" bUTch says all of the right things to get the fans excited and believing in the program, but he can't deliver the results on the field?

What if we go to Florida and lose 35 - 14 and their running back gets over 150 yards?

What if Peterman ends up starting the South Ala bam game?

What if the other three q.b.'s leaves U.T. , at seasons end, decause they all want playing time?

OR

What if we win all of our winnable games this season and somehow sneak out an unexpected win, against UGA or USC etc?

What if we qualify for a bowl game, get extra practice sessions, and also somehow win the bowl game. This momentum, pushes through the off season?

thats a whole lotta ifs.

I had the same thoughts the OP posted but I think I just don't want to admit we suck again, and hope somehow I am wrong and the coach is super smart. But I realized I was wrong no coach is gonna lay down in a game just to hide secrets for the next game. Jones thought if we win this game at Oregon we will have people's attention. But we must wait yet another year, and another and another.....

I think Butch and his staff knew there wasant much of a chance against the ducks. But this weekend is a diffrent story I think Butch is going to throw everything but the kitchen sink at florida. This week is going to tell the tell. We will know saturday if we will be able to compete this yr. I just hope and pray its not going to be another long season. If we get blowed out again this Saturday how bad does everybody think this is going to hurt our recruiting?

the goal of the season is to win a bowl game, that's the only thing that matters this year ... A game against the best out-of-conference team in the country (3000 miles away) is exciting but is almost irrelevant to our goal.

truf of all trufs

How about this what if....

What if the team is still learning to grasp the new offense and there is only so much they can run with everybody knowing what they are doing, especially on the road?

How about this, hey do you really think the entire playbook was open in the Oregon game? Even in the second half?

That was my original question but since your response was irrelevant I figured I would ask it again, and to you directly.

How was his response irrelevant, when it answered the question?

Or do not understand his reply at all?

We aren't even close to Oregons level. We got spanked, and that's all there is to it.

So let me get this straight.....

The week of the Oregon game, many posters blasted the realists aka "NegaVols" for not believing we would win and kept saying Jones would have the team play to win, not quit, leave it all out on the field, etc.

The very next week (after the predicted beatdown happened), NOW we have people saying Jones knew the Oregon game "didn't matter" and we had little chance to win, so held back, and now it's "for reals" against Florida?

Where do some of you people come from?

...a mindless planet barren of all intelligent life.

At least they have hope.

I do think we went vanilla after oregon fired it up on offense. No point in revealing everything in a losing cause. However, "having more plays", doesn't give me hope when we couldn't even execute the plays we did use. The only thing that gives me hope is that this week the game plan will be better, and the offense executes better with a different QB (if that happens at all).

I do understand his reply. And it was in no way an answer to my question.

Pretty much it was.

You asked if he thought the entire playbook was open at Oregon.

He replied that perhaps they were still learning to grasp the offense and that there was only so much they could run.

I think it's pretty clear his answer was "no", because he's saying it couldn't be open because not everyone even is comfortable enough to run the whole playbook.

My only comment on the playbook is its not an option if the RB always gets the ball. Its a hand off. Unfortunately I think we have seen the offense and defense we can expect. Just hope Auburn looks bad against LSU and Vandy takes a nose dive. We need them and Missouri to suck for us to have a chance at 6-6.

Aside from North, I don't see anyone running around out there that will ever rise to the level of "very good."

Vincent Dallas is a very good football player who needs to be left at a position long enough to master it.

Croom is a physical freak if he can work on his hands.

Johnson looks to have the potential to become a very good WR as does Josh Smith.

The potential is there. It has to be developed and gain experience. One is coaching... the other unfortunately is time... and some pain.
