I'll not lament Cordarelle Patterson's departure to the NFL or enter into the speculation that he might change his mind. I will offer this thread as a tribute to the moments he has given us.

I searched my memory of UT football teams and players going back to the mid-Sixties. In terms of players who really had fans (or me at least) anticipating something spectacular might happen any time he had the ball, I had to go back almost that far to Condredge Holloway.

I think opinions on this will be very interesting, because we have seen so many impact players pass through the program. I do, of course, wish Cordarelle Patterson would not pass through it quite so fast.

The way he can change direction without slowing down is just incredible. Especially when we consider how big he is.

I've been watching UT football for more than three decades now and I've not seen another that could do what he can with the ball in his hands. I'd like to have a larger sample of it, to be sure, but he is special in a way that we're not likely to see again. If we could put him on one of our great teams like some mentioned were.. I think he'd be completely ridiculous. It's just a shame we're likely not going to see another year of him.

Names already mentioned... Dale Carter, Carl Pickens, and Eric Berry all very similar. Patterson, if he had been here 3 or 4 years would have been our first heisman, imo.

Kelley Washington.......................

Had one big game and a few solid ones, then managed to poison the entire team. CP was well liked and had many big games.

Ill second the Eric Berry mention. He's the only Vol of the 2000s that you knew was capable of changing a game any second.

Eric Berry, Al Wilson, Tony Robinson, and Reggie White. Several running backs during the 90's who only needed a crease to take it to the house.

I thought Dale Carter was going to the house with every punt or kick return. But I've still never seen anything like Patterson. Size speed and elusiveness. What a player. Seems like a good kid too.

Carl Pickens. If Woodson was a legit Heisman winner, Pickens should have been in the discussion!

Pickens was in the discussion. If I'm not mistaken, he received some Heisman votes.

Edit: Disregard, I was mistaken.

No worries. But it was my fault for not being more clear- by in the discussion I meant he should have been in New York! He was every bit as explosive a kick returner, a much better offensive player, and a dominant defensive back. I confess to being bitter over Manning not winning, but I truly believe that Pickens did more to deserve the award than Woodson did, other than play on a national championship team.
