Cordarrelle Patterson Most Exciting UT Player Since?

He wasn't a Vol, but Randy Moss is who he most reminds me of.

Im not trying to be a smarta$$, but where do you get Randy Moss? Moss is not an elusive playmaker like CP. He just runs like a gazelle. And CP is not even similar to Moss catching a football. There is only one better than Moss at the WR position. CP will never be a great reciever. Dont get me wrong, CP is pure magic with the ball in his hands, the trouble is getting it there. You cant compare him to the second best receiver of all-time.

Eric Berry, Al Wilson, Tony Robinson, and Reggie White. Several running backs during the 90's who only needed a crease to take it to the house.

nope ! The question was "Cordarrelle Patterson Most Exciting UT Player Since?" That would be a player like Carl Pickens, Dale Carter or Peyton Manning. Players like these with the ability to break a game open or change a game on any giving play.

If it's A player, have to go with Condredge Holloway, nobody electrified Neyland as much until CP arrived.

Yea Holloway seemed to be ahead of his time to me, great athlete

How can you say that is not Eric Berry????

I've been watching UT games for a long time and I really believe that CP is as talented a football player as anybody that's played here. Granted, he is not as good a receiver as some of the greats we've had i.e...Peerless Price, Alvin Harper, Tim McGee, Carl Pickens. However, he is as good with the ball in his hands as anyone I've seen...up there with Chuck Webb. I actually believe CP could of easily been a 1,000 yd rusher had we put him at tailback this year.

That is an important and accurate distinction that you made. In terms of sheer raw, natural physical talent, Patterson is phenomenal. I have never seen anyone give up so much ground on reverses and kick returns, yet still manage to turn the corner against SEC defenses. In so doing, it often looked like he had not even kicked into his highest gear.

Having said that, he is exceptionally RAW. Patterson will never come close to maximizing his potential if does not choose to exercise a certain, multi-lobed organ between his ears and become a true student of the game. If he decides to do that, there is virtually no ceiling on just how great he could be.

Chuck Webb, Dale Carter, and Al Wilson week in and out, changed games..... but...... "Give The Ball To Jamal" was the last "great" individual player that I remember the fans being extremely excited about... I could name 25-50 players easily that deserve their names displayed in this thread just from late 80's-Present team.....

Who would you take in the NFL when Eric Berry meets CP across the middle???

'nuff said.....CP don't stand a chance in that collision.

And CP's kick return skills are great...but Willie Gault and Carl Pickens--while not being as flashy--could take it to the house ANY time they touched the ball. Forgot to put Dale Carter in there, too! :salute:

Patterson is one of the best elusive runners I've seen. What he has can not be taught, it's a gift from God and I will love watching him in the NFL.

Some of the others mentioned are right there also .... I'll add Willie Gault and Bobby Majors in that group. Notice they were all pretty much punt/kick return specialists.

Eric Berry

At any point he could lay a monster hit or snag the ball and run it back. His play was absolutely electric and he had the athletic ability to rival Patterson's.

CP is exciting with the ball, but he was very disappointing in how he played the WR position this past year. He runs poor routes, dropped some big balls in the clutch, and routinely took plays off and was not in position to receive the ball when Bray looked his way. All of those issues cost the team big.

Now, if you want to look back at another big time JUCO transfer who was exciting at UT, look no further than Anthony Miller. He was as exciting and as complete a WR as UT has put out.
