Cordarrelle's "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" Penalty

I see stuff like that every weekend that isn't called. Call was bs.

If a runner changes his stride prior to entering the endzone, it is considered taunting and is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the score is negated.

He started high-stepping at the 4 or 5 yard line.

The rule sucks, I know, but it's the rule, and was called correctly. This one is on CP.

I think this is the rule. If the action is considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" meaning it is open to the interpretation of the ref. Still think the call was bs.

College football, governed by the NCAA also penalizes excessive celebrations with a 15 yard penalty. NCAA Football Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(1)(d) prohibits "Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves)"; in addition, Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(2) asserts that "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot."[3] Additionally, if a player's actions is considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" the result is dead-ball foul; a "flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct" foul requires player ejection. If a player’s nonfootball-related act (e.g. taunting or cursing) causes an opponent to physically retaliate, it is considered fighting and both players are ejected.

I have to agree...the rule rarely gets called in major college football, and though it didn't really hurt us in the end, it did negate what was an incredible play by Patterson.

Mainly, it made it almost impossible for me to find a good video of Patterson's play, and I wanted to watch that juke again. Haha.

Thanks for posting. I agree the rule sucks. Also, I wouldn't say what CP did was "excessive". Sorry, I'm venting. There's not much left to do but vent.

Yep i saw that on the game stats, but I was there and could have sworn Mizzou committed several off sides. Maybe we made more yds than the five and declined?

Yeah, I think you're right. I was so busy raving/getting sun burnt during the game, that I may have glossed over a few of those in my mind.

I was less than enthused that they never got called for holding, however. There were a few that were blatant. We didn't get many (or any?) holding calls either though, so at least that was fairly consistent, I believe.

I never saw who threw the flag but I did see that douche Allama Matthews multiple times during the game. Was he the idiot who threw that flag?

I thought that flag would only be thrown if you were taunting opposing players. What a bogus penalty.

Not a bogus call. It's a rule about changing stride or something like that I think. Don't like it, but it's the rule. One thing though it that we'd missed that TD pass next, wow what a throw. On the money.

I think we got one holding call called back a nice play if I remember correctly it was the correct call though.

High stepping usually occurs to keep a defensive player from tripping an offensive player and preventing him from gaining yardage or scoring. Going into the end zone after juking a player and wanting to score (thus high stepping to prevent trips) doesn't seem like an action worthy of a penalty.

I think Tiny had about three holds. That dude he was trying to block had a killer inside bull rush move. Dallas got his usual false start call
