Corporal Punishment

Given how young people are in todays society, I would say they couldn’t psychologically handle a simple paddling. They would probably say they are traumatized and need safe spaces. I see nothing wrong with paddling. Everybody I knew got paddled multiple times growing up. As did I.

Just out of curiosity, how many posters on here have been on the receiving end of a school spanking? I got one in high school in 1974 for fighting.
Yep. Not many, as I was good at talking my way out of trouble.

But the rule was get one at school, get another when you get home. Got one as a senior. Dad didn't know until I was out of college.

Mom took care of her own business as did Dad.

Worst I ever got was with a stalk of cotton Dad pulled from the end of a row. Never forgot it or the why. Got it for covering my sister up in a cotton wagon, which was dangerous as hell. It has been over 50 years and to date, I have never covered up anyone else in a cotton wagon, so the lesson was effective.

It happened when I was in elementary school… I don’t know, personally I don’t trust strangers to make the appropriate determination/usage.
I don't trust them anymore because they most likely don't spank their own kids. When I was coming through school, the paddle, and I'm talking 2 ft long double handed grip lift you off your feet paddle, was applied by teachers that had their own kids at home. Teachers wouldn't know how to even lift a paddle now.

I felt sorry for a couple of friends of mine whose Moms were teachers. They were rougher on them than the rest of us.

I got a paddling in 8th grade along with two other guys. When the teacher went to get another one to be the witness we decided to scream every time we got popped. I was the first to go and had to bend over and put my hands flat in a chair…. Then pop! Aghhhhh!…pop!!….. ahhhhhhh!!….pop!!! Aghhhhhh!!. I walked back across the hall into class and everyone was laughing and then I heard the next guy…. I remember being amazed by how loud the paddle was and then his exaggerated screams…. It was funny. About 7-8 years ago my nephew had an engagement party so all of my family was there along with his fiancée’s…. I walked in the kitchen and there was the teacher that paddled me…..she was the fiancée’s mother….. she said “Carl Pickens… I remember you…. screaming when I paddled you”

There was a certain contingent of my middle school friends that were in weekly to see Mr Ton and get tuned up. The screaming thing is funny.

We thought it would be, but didn’t realize how easily everyone in class could hear it because we were across the hall in a teachers lounge

**** no. I don't even spank my own kids (tho I don't judge parents who do), the state sure as hell isn't going to do it. Even if the law allows it, seems like a liability.

On a Good Friday, about 1967 or '68, my sister and I combined to get seven spankings. On the way to Moultrie that evening to eat dinner, Mom had the 'wind in her jaws' as my granddaddy like to say.

Dad (looks over at Mom and then at us in the rear-view mirror): "Kids sure are quiet."

Mom (still pissed): "They should be. I whipped the two of them seven times today!"

Dad (glances back at us again): "Well, it worked."

I was paddled numerous times in elementary and middle school. Often the teacher was at my house talking to my parents (or had called them) when I got off the bus (the small community thing). Then, I had to wait for dad to come home from work for the real punishment to start.

I got paddled one time in high school. There was a group of us. We had a long-term sub whom we all despised. We were in class the next day, and he said he did not want to be a teacher anymore. He finished out the year, and moved to the South Pacific to conduct research on some wildlife for the next 30 or so years.

A few years ago, I was assigned a "new hire" teacher to mentor. It was the same teacher, who had decided to start over with his teaching career. He finally figured out who I was about Christmas, and he did a good job. He was set to return to school the next year, but he died unexpectedly. His sister asked me to be one of his pallbearers. Life sure is weird sometimes.
