Here’s what I don’t get...why didn’t the BCS (which created a bonafide national title game for the first time) not cheapen the other bowls, but adding just one more layer (a semifinal, then a final) render the other bowls worthless? I mean, under the old system you couldn’t win a title if you weren’t #1 or #2, but teams outside the top 2 still seemed to care about the other bowls.Going to have to expand the playoffs, at least to 8 teams. College basketball doesn't have this problem because more teams get into the NCAAT, and nobody would really care if players decided to skip out on the NIT. And most of these bowls are pretty much the NIT for college football.
Bowls are a pretty outdated concept anyway, and ever since the BCS more and more bowls have become less interesting to anyone. And that toothpaste isn't going back in the tube.
