The best QB for an rpo offense is the most accurate one not the fastest one. This isn't the Butch Jones read option.
That's part of it but decision making is the biggest thing. UCF's QB right now isn't a very physically gifted guy.

I've watched large chunks of a few games. Heupel's O over the past couple of years is virtually tailor made for Hooker. He's going to be hard to beat.
We’ll see. Not saying Hooker is a slouch because I don’t know. I do know he’s a DT qb with 4.97 speed. No sure that’s fast enough in the SEC

Salter has got to be excited about the coaching change as well...he and Hooker seem great fits for the offense. But I’m hoping Heupel is flexible enough to adjust his schemes to match the talent - Bailey and Maurer are both good QBs.

He coached @ OU when Bradford was there.

He looks faster and has good instincts. He looks as fast as Dobbs.... who was also supposedly a 4.8 guy.
Gotta take into consideration the talent level difference in the ACC vs SEC. His worst game was the best team in the ACC and the ONLY team that can compete with an SEC team (Clemson). The rest of the ACC is pretty much bad teams outside of NC which I consider average.

I definitely think HH, could do a good job in this offense, but if Kaidon Salter is as good as everyone thinks he is, I think he could be a GREAT fit for Heupel offense

He is really fast, but Dobbs ran skittish and made those type of passes, like What was that???

Some younger fans think Dobbs was all that as a dual-threat, must have never watched Tony Robinson or Tee.

Got to figure it would come down to Salter and or Hooker unless CJH changes his scheme for Bailey.

If Mauer is around he'll be in the mix. I think Salter will need a year to work on his throwing motion and skills.

Dobbs is faster...his NFL combine time was 4.64 while Hooker’s listed time is 4.96. Usually the NFL combine time is higher than the times listed from HS and college.

I won't belabor this too long but there are coaches that specialize in teaching guys how to run a 40 for their combine. Hooker looks fast enough. I think he definitely has enough to pose a run threat.

Maurer is the prototype for this offense.
Bailey will need to work on getting it out faster if he is to win the job.

Hooker seems like a one read QB that also provides a threat as a runner.

Salter SEEMS to have the MOST upside period. Ol boy might pull a Jalen Hurts! Texas QBs ain't no joke, and he was one of the better ones.

Should be an interesting battle. This is definitely new life for Maurer and a tough break for Bailey.

Maurer won’t see the field as a starter for UT ever again. No offense to him. But he needs to go to a different program/conference. He is way too fragile.

As for Bailey, Huepel will fix him as far as release.

Seems like wishful thinking on your part. We'll see how it plays out.

I don't have a favorite "horse" in the race. I'm just looking at skill sets after watching some of Heupel's O. He may end up loving HB... but he's not the kind of QB who seems to do well in his O. Maurer, Hooker, and Salter are much more like the guys who've succeeded in his system.

He does...but Dobbs had some wheels and was faster than people thought. Kentucky fans thought he should have been first team AA with the runs he had against them...I’d take Dobbs back in a heartbeat. He’s the primary reason Butch got five years instead of three

He said he would and has built around his QBs

If I remember before Dobbs ever saw the field Ainge kept saying on his radio show that Dobbs wasn't a dual threat QB lol. Wasn't Dobbs considered a dual threat out of HS? What film was he watching

Every coach says that. Jones said that and harped on it. But a coach's system has a range. IMHO, it doesn't favor HB. We'll see. Then you also have to account for the fact that three of the QB's in the room have similar skill sets and one is different.

It will end up being the guy who grasps the offense the quickest and makes the best decisions with the ball. It could be Bailey. Drew Lock was hardly a prolific runner under CJH..

With his mobility he might be the guy since the offensive line will most likely be a mess this season. He could be like Josh Dobbs 2014-2016 with Butch Jones.
