Could Joe Milton switch to Tight End or WR?

Manning might not have been a feared scrambler, but he would have never run out of bounds with the game on the line to avoid a hit.

What would he have gained if he stopped just in bounds other than an injury? For sure he needed to fling it down field, but I bet THE most common lessons drilled into all ball carriers with limited time on the clock is don't go down in bounds if you are burning clock and get the heck out of bounds if you are behind. Some things become instinctive when life is a blur. I need to go back and review the play so see if he was beyond the line of scrimmage at that time he was hemmed in at the sideline. Anybody got a screenshot?

Still think he needs to wear an ankle weight on his throwing arm. I think that would correct his overthrow problem.

He could have gained a heave to the endzone, no matter how up against the odds that might have been, it would have been 1000 times more advantageous than running out of bounds with no time on the clock to avoid contact, than running out of bounds with no time on the clock, it would have been unquestionably better to just ****ing throw it up for grabs and put it in God’s hands.

Please everyone chill. I understand that Volnation has not seen any true player development in over a decade until recently. Don't expect Milton to be worse in year 3 as Guarantano was worse in year.... 12? This is a great opportunity for CJH and staff to do their thing. Remember, CJH has had phenomenal success developing the QB position. I'm cautiously optimistic about the Joe Milton project.

Never heard anybody defend the play, but it is one play and it has been way overplayed when presented as a definitive career ending play. A play that would not have happened if a receiver made a play on a catchable pass seconds earlier. It is possible he is simply not equipped with those fast twitch instincts and decisions that make good athletes great quarterbacks. But I suggest we should put his growth and maturity in God's hands and see where it goes rather than feature judgmental and often snarky cheap shots at a guy that was invited to be a VOL and has not shown the lack of character many posters on our boards have. I can only imagine the classless responses by the same people wishing he would go away if he did in fact buy into their documented wishes on this and other sites and entered the portal tomorrow. They would demand control of the timeline too. I hope he is strong enough and loyal enough to the staff and players to NOT display the same level of character as his most vocal detractors who also wear orange. Would hate it if they denied our coach his backup QB.

He and our staff need to define his potential and his best future path based on a much fuller fact set than one can get from the stands or on TV. I always like it when it appears opposing coaches are having to tell players to ignore a group of their fans, but hate it when our coaches have to share that message. I find zero solace in knowing every fanbase has them.

I wish him all of God’s blessings every day of his life. But we are not giving out participation trophies at this level. JG seemed like a great kid as well. I think we have seen enough from both of them to know that they don’t have it at this level, and therefore should not be on the team. The play that was being discussed was that particular play, and my comment was in response to that. It in itself may or may not have been a career ending play, but it was a big gaff in a long line of poor play by this kid. If he were to walk up to me on the street and asked me what I expected him to do different (as the poster did who elicited my response) I would have told him a slightly more polite version of the same speech. I am sure his coaches did as well. My take on that particular play was not inaccurate. Could I have been nicer about it? Of course, as I said I would have been if he approached me about it. But we are just a bunch of people goofing around on a message board. Lighten up Francis.

I was very critical of Milton after the Ole Miss game, just like a lot of us. Honestly, I think he was checked out after losing the starting job and seeing the success that Hooker was having. I think it’s entirely possible that the Ole Miss disaster or however you want to describe it could be the best thing that ever happens to him. I think he’s actually looked a lot more under control in the games we’ve seen him that game. It might take a little longer for him than others, but if the light comes on he could very good for us. I think after what Heupel has done with HH, I’ll trust his judgment on Milton.
