Could we pull off singing Rocky Top in its entirety during a game as a crowd?

It's a great idea I think.

At GB Packer games, the whole crowd sings "Roll Out the Barrel" and the crowd really gets into it and its pretty cool to see, so I don't see why Rocky Top wouldn't work as well.

No phone bills (Obama phones?)

Girls as hairy as bears

Shine.

Awesome song.

You've got it wrong. The words are:

Ain't no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top,
Ain't no telephone bills.

Not

Ain't no Obama phones on Rocky Top.
Ain't no telephone bills.

Let's sing Radiohead's greatest hits with lyrics on the bigscreen the whole game. Now talk about pretty damn cool. I'd go just for that.

Seeing as how your band and fans dive right into the chorus on that song anytime someone on your sidelines breathes in and out correctly, I'd say you are pretty much already doing it.

You might consider preserving it for special occasions, such as when you score, or get a turnover. Not merely when you snap the ball and no one dies.

If that were the criteria, we would have hardly gotten to sing it the past five years.

Unless a string band is drunkenly playing Rocky Top for the encore of the show outside the bar at 2 in the morning, then I do not want to hear a group of people - thousands of people at that - attempt singing it. It would be awful.

Remember the Rocky Top cd with the different renditions ranging from blue grass to the club mix? Play the club mix at some point in the game.

Hmmm, crazy impossible off season ideas. Ok, how about we spray paint the field bright orange for the opening game. We would make every Sportscenter break in for the entire night. Every recruit in America would see it on Sportscenter.

Best mother freaking fight song in college football.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the song. I LOVE the tradition with the song at UT.

However, a UT fight song it is not.

It's more like a Tennessee drinking song that was co-opted by UT.

100,000+ singing an uptempo song at the same time that an SECfootball game is going on?

See monkey and football.

I'm not ripping the song; its a bluegrass classic. I'm just not a huge bluegrass fan. I prefer the Allman Brothers to the Osborne Brothers. And if you don't know who the Osborne Brothers are without Googling it, then you don't know jack s@*t about "Rocky Top." I wish back in '85 that they would have come up with some rocker to be the "official" song. And, as I've said before, I like "Fight Vols Fight" and "Down the Field" better than RT.
