In 1929, a player wearing the number 29 got into a fight with an offensive lineman, who happened to wear number 70. The OL (I forget both of the players' names, this is from second hand stories/memory) beat the other kid up pretty bad, putting him in the hospital. Eventually, the kid who wore 29 died, and the university/athletics/staff decided to not wear the number 29 until 1999 (70 years after the incident).
