Country music thread

I really do NOT like most country music (even though I grew up in a rural town and was always surrounded by it.... that might be the problem). I used to like Garth, Nitty Gritty, and Randy Travis back in the day, but they're long gone now.

I got lots of respect for Johnny Cash, George Jones and Hank Williams.... very little for Kenny Chesney, Tobe Keith, and the countless other "neo-country" types. It just all seems re-hashed to me.

A good friend of mine drug me to a Brad Paisley concert about a year ago. Even though I went kickin' and scremin', I must admit, that guy is pretty awesome. We had a blast that night. "Alcohol" is my favorite song of his.

You have fairly well summed it up for me as well. I would add Willie Nelson to the respected list, primarily as a song writer.

Bump.

I really like the Zac Rogers Band. They got some catchy songs out.

do you mean Zac Brown Band? I've heard some of their stuff, including "Chicken Fried" as 85 mentioned. I like it a lot. Was surprised at how the band actually looked. And in the House of Blues show/video, he's sportin a Mac sticker on his guitar. Big fan of that.

Yea Zac Brown. My bad. The song "Toes" is really good too.

Brad Paisley is one of the greatest things to happen to country music in recent memory. He's been around a long time and will be around a long time. He's seriously one of the most talented people in country music.

Lone Star Hotel by Guy Clark, I just listened to it and it was pretty good.

wow didnt know it was from 1981.

I ran across my old Blackhawk CD. I haven't heard any of their songs in forever. Some of it is pretty good stuff.

I love everything Blackhawk ever did.

As far as new artists I am digging on, Jason Aldean and Trent Tomlinson top that list.

Carrie Underwood is in a league of her own and is likely the most beautiful woman in music of any genre. *drool*

Agreed 100%. Anyone else catch the making of Waitin' on a Woman? That was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Andy Griffith really did like Brad a lot and it showed. That guitar he gave him made his day/year/career.:good!:

I watched that a few days ago. That was awesome to see. Andy Griffith was all about doing that video and he was perfect for it. I like all kinds of music, I just posted in the Incubus thread but few are more talanted than Brad Paisley. I think a lot of country gets a bad name and rightfully so because like a lot of pop stars, they don't do anything but sing. They don't write their music, don't play music but Brad is the real deal. He is one of the best guitar players out there.

I'm with you. Country isn't my favorite genre, but I listen to all types of music. Living in Nashville makes avoiding country music an impossibility.

And yeah, that was cool as crap. I have lots of respect for Brad Paisley, and he is an amazing guitarist. I have even more for folks that write their own music, ala Josh Turner and others.

I've seen Brad a few times, and he is, if nothing else, a showman. He also plays alot of songs with a gospel/grass pitch that don't make it to radio, but are well worth a listen. That, and he's about the only radio country guy who picks his own guitar on stage. I've seen Kenny C a few times, both times slamming away chords without moving his hand on the neck at all.

Keith Urban may not be considered a "country" music guy, but he can play the hell out of a guitar as well.

Country music's number 1 fan...

Don't waste the time or money to see Rascal Flatts would be my advice

My wife would prolly shoot you between the eyes for that remark lol. Its a girl thing. She loves them and just one of those things I have to go to to keep peace in the home.
Thanks for the helpful parking tips though lol.:eek:k:

I know groves doesn't like them, but I become a bigger fan of Sugarland with every song. It's good stuff. I'm also no longer ashamed to say I am a Taylor Swift fan. Some of her stuff is typical teenage girl cheesy stuff, but a lot of it is very, very good and it is without a doubt country music. Kudos to her. After all, she is a teenage girl, so go figure that would be what she sings about. Now feel free to bash me and take away one of my man cards.

I love sugar land. Her voice is as pure as I have ever heard when live. Little or no difference in her voice when live. She is amazing a hot to boot. Saw them here in chatt at an upscale function concert for about 2000 people. She was great. I can honestly say I think Taylor is pretty good as well. What is impressive is she writes or co writes almost all of here stuff. Regardless of the topic that is pretty good.

Just ran across a kick a$$ country/rock band tonight on MySpace. They are called "Dry Country"...if you have MySpace do a search for them...very good sound!

I respect anybody that can write their own songs and put on a good show like Taylor can. I doubt I would ever buy her CD though.

I would rather jab Q-tips in my ears until they bleed then hear Jennifer Nettles sing.
