Counzo adopted Butch Jones football slogan...

No. It's stupid.

Come out to my place and help me build a mailbox, and I'll tell you all about it. I'll wear a nice polo and khakis, and you can wear plaid and jeans. It will be great.

Your continued shots at the football program in an attempt to defend the basketball team are weak. The two aren't in competition with one another.

If you don't like Butch's commercials, fine. Either way, it doesn't make Cuonzo any better of a coach.

You're tripping Freak. Please get off my back. I'm entitled to my opinion, and I don't recall seeing you busting anyone else's balls about having a different opinion. You think because I like bball better that I hate the football team. Just pointing out that Butch is generally lauded with his 5-7 season while people were calling for Martin's head with a 6-3 start. Give me a break.

I'm on your back because I said your continued shots at the football team in an attempt to defend Cuonzo are weak?

I'm entitled to my opinion also, and I stated it: your continued shots at the football team and its fans are weak.

I think you perceive this battle between football fans and basketball fans, and I base that opinion off of dozens of posts you've made.

You can't really believe the nonsense comparisons you just made. Butch is lauded for the energy and recruiting he's brought to the program in his first year. No one is blown away by the 5-7 record, including me. If in year three he hasn't shown any improvement he will have far more critics than Cuonzo does.

Chris, I guess I just don't understand the need to disparage one sport in an attempt to pump up another one. That's all. You're entitled to your opinion, I just don't understand the point of view. It's not my intention to be "on your back".

Butch basically had nothing to work with in his FIRST year as coach plus he got a signature win against #10 USCjr. so that's why IMO he gets a pass this year. OTOH, Cuonzo has more talent right now on this team to work with than several coaches before him ever had. So there's no excuses this year.

I am one of those that believes Butch can get it done because of his recruiting prowess and the signature win and Cuonzo can't because this is his third year and he is doing nothing with all this talent.

Well after 3 years we know what we have in Counzo. The football program on the other hand gets its 3 or 4 years again. It's where it's at. The football program needs stability and the same coaches for a few years. There really is no excuse for what we're seeing on the hardwood. This walk the ball up the court, slow style of basketball is boring, worse is it's very sloppy. I think we'll be heading in a different direction after this year. I would hope most have seen enough of this bland , boring , sloppy basketball.

A 6-4 start with the talent on this roster is a huge disappointment. Cuonzo has said as much. It doesn't mean the season is over or the guys can't turn it around. The question is can we get things fixed and do it in time to earn a tourney bid? It's possible but it's not looking good.

You're not on his back. He wants to be entitled to his opinion, yet doesn't think someone should be entitled to have the opinion that his is absolutely ridiculous.

I certainly won't deny I saw it as a competition, but it was obviously an overwhelming football win, so I have moved on. If you like to continue bringing that up, I guess I only have myself to blame, but I would like to think that someone like you would be the last person to give a VN member grief about it. I like Butch, I was expecting 6-6, but I can excuse a Vandy loss for a SCar win. He's a winner, and there's reason to believe he has the potential to succeed here.
I thought Martin was in the same boat. Martin and Butch are actually kinda similar pre-UT, except that Butch had more experience. Winning records, conference championship, conference COY, etc. Cuonzo has obviously underachieved this year, but to say that a 6-4 team is doomed to miss the tournament is laughable. I really don't know what will happen, nor can I even speculate. I obviously like Martin, so I hope he can cut it here, but my faith is at an all-time low. I'm just not going to be calling for head at this point.

My concern is that we go on a huge run like we did last year and it still not be enough. Like win 9 out of the last 10 or something close to that. I'm afraid we're gonna see the same result as in "bubble team" status. IMO, the only thing that ensures us an NCAA tournament bid would be an amazing run in the SEC or winning the whole thing.

Heh, you confuse me every now and then, but I think you see what I was saying. I was wrong for the trying to bash football. I have moved on. Would be a lot nicer if we could just cheer for the program together. I'm tempted to challenge you to find the last time I posted something overtly condescending about the football program. I'm 99% sure it wouldn't be from this past season.
