I've got one last question for you basketball guys. How good of an athlete is he (Cornish)? Is he comparable to McRae (who's a very good athlete IMO) or is he not on that level? If not is there someone on the team or in the SEC (now or previously) that he compares to as an athlete?

I see him very similar in style and athleticism to Josh Richardson, but I think he'll be better.

He's a slasher likes to get to the basket. His body size now is college ready. He likes to take advantage of smaller players. His weakness from what I see is being consistent on his shot. He isn't bad but he's streaky. He needs a little correction on his shot. He's a good defender. I think in a couple interviews he takes pride in it. You'll be pleased with what he will bring to the table in the coming years. Austin Hubbs Cornish Cofer Thompson ect will be very good players in the future IMO.

Has a nice ring to it.

I think by scout it wouldn't. Only London is consensus top 100.

They have
Austin 3* #27 PG
Cofer 3* NR
Cornish 2* NR

Kinda weird how one site could have someone a 4* and the other a 2*.

I was meaning 247 composite, should've been clearer, sorry.

Yea scout doesn't think much of any of our guys, on the flip side ESPN loved all our guy lol.

Yeah I am guessing that scout hasn't seen much of Cornish.

:eek:lol:

Maybe they simply weren't impressed with him, It doesn't mean Cornish is going to be a mediocre college player because of a bad rating. DJ Stephens was also a 2* and he turnout to be the second most valuable player on the team. Jalen Kendrick was a 5* and a total bust at each university.

I'll take that all day. Josh fits exactly Martin's system very well--he's a heck of a defender and can score around the basket. He showed flashes on offense last year but needs to be more consistent. If he improves his mid-range game from last year to this year as much as he did from his freshman to sophomore year than I think he will be a very good player for us next year as a junior. And then Cornish will have had time to come in, learn the system, acclimate himself to the SEC, and be able to fill that role once Richardson graduates.

Couple things:

*DEFINITELY headed for a top 20 composite class, job well done by Zo, needed a great class and he's got it. As good as it is though, he's not done yet, the best is yet to come, at least that's the hope.

*GEORGIA not Memphis. Martin spent A LOT of his time and efforts in previous classes trying to steal players out of Memphis, it didn't work enough. This class he's used his Midwest roots, along with the long giving state of Georgia. Take a look at these names: McRae, Moore, Davis, Cofer, Turman...more players from Georgia than any other state. Pearl had great success pulling from GA as well, hope Zo continues to target GA.

*We now have 4 commitments, with only 5, possibly 6 open spots. This now allows Martin and staff to give their undivided attention to their top targets: Kevon Looney & Leron Black. I haven't thought we'd land either, especially Black, but today's commitment improved our chances IMO.

GBO!

Is there a certain reason or info you think this commitment improved our chances with Black or just gut feeling? I also like that with 4 commits they can recruit like no other with Looney and Black. It helps when you have commits talking to you about a school. Having 4 has to help tremendously. Martin is also selling something. All the quotes I have seen with every commit always says "Coach Martin made me feel like family. And like it was home." I'm excited to see going forward with two 5 star recruits on the recruit board.

Couple things...biggest one is as I mentioned now Martin himself can give his undivided attention to them. Duke for example is pursuing looney, jones m, turner and Okafor. It's impossible for K to be at everyone of those guys HS games...it's very possible Martin can be at just about everyone of Looney and Black's. it means alot to recruits for the head coach to be at your games verse an assistant...Martin now only has to split his time between 2 players, an advantage he now has over most of his competition.

Another reason to a lesser extent, good players wanna play with good players. The thought of playing with Hubbs, Austin, Cornish, Cofer and Turman has to be more appealing than joining a class full of Washpuns say. One of the negatives against Tennessee would likely be they're not as good as say Illinois, well with the incoming class it's easier to sell the potential of being part of a great team.

Oh ok. Yeah I agree. Having coaches at games to watch you and talk with you afterwards. I think Martin is like Butch in that they don't talk about just basketball or football the whole time. They talk about life school and such with the coaches. I hope to see Looney or Black in orange. I think it will do wonders. Adding one or the other and we are a tourney team no doubt.
