Drummond: I'm still committed to Illinois

By Bob Sakamoto |Tribune staff reporter
2:57 PM CST, January 19, 2009

Morgan Park All-American defensive end Craig Drummond is going to expand his college options.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 260-pound senior said he is leaving Friday on an official visit to
Mississippi despite making an oral commitment to Illinois in November.
"I'm still committed to Illinois," Drummond said Monday after reiterating to Illini coach Ron Zook that he still is planning to play in Champaign. "I just want to check out another school. So far, I've made visits to Illinois and
Wisconsin."
Drummond said he became enamored with the Rebels program after talking to a number of Mississippi recruits during the
U.S. Army All-American Bowl Jan. 3 in San Antonio.

"It was cool talking to those guys and finding out why they are going to Mississippi," Drummond said. "What they said made a big impression on me.
"I didn't talk to any of the coaches from Mississippi."
t's not unusual for recruits who commit early to make visits to other schools. College prospects will sign national letters of intent on Feb. 4.
Another prize Illini recruit, All-State receiver Terry Hawthorne of East St. Louis, made a visit to
Oklahoma over the weekend. Hawthorne committed to the Illini during the football season.
