Cars with foreign plates have been showing up in Africa in staggering numbers, with the majority hailing from Canada and the United States.

A whopping 80 percent of stolen vehicles in Canada are said to leave the country's ports and most end up in countries like Ghana.

Authorities have also noticed an increase in the number of stolen cars departing the United States for West Africa. An ongoing investigation has seized cars at major shipping ports like New Jersey and Baltimore.

Many vehicles are carjacked, a process that is becoming easier with push-to-start technology. Syndicates will retag a stolen car by altering its Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, a unique serial number.

An estimated 10 percent of stolen cars in the United States are believed to end up overseas. HSI agents look at anomalies in trends relating to imports and exports and often conduct random searches.

In August, Homeland Security said it had already seized about 300 stolen vehicles at the Port of Newark this year, marking a a 32 percent increase from last year.

Well, when the former President and front runner for the GOP nomination commits fraud to the tune of hundreds of millions, year in and year out, it's hard to explain to every day folks why stealing a 6 pack is a major sin.

Crime is a massive problem in our civilization. It is because we don't strike fear into individuals for their actions. Ancient Rome, Macedon, Medieval Europe, Ottomans, Ming China, etc. All the great powers in history had dreadful punishments but it was to enforce fear and respect from society to keep people in line. We don't have that and our country has run amok. There is a reason they stoned people in the Bible or hanged people in the 1800s. We take people like Jeffrey Dahmer and put them in prisons that seem like paradise compared to prisons of the past and make them into celebrities. Hollywood isn't any better with movies that glorify crime and criminals (Fast and Furious, Oceans 11, Scarface, Godfather, etc.). Add in the hot women chasing the "bad boys" and you got a systematic culture national that supports and encourages crime. This isn't a Memphis, Atlanta, Los Angeles issue; it isn't an issue of a specific set of people or race; this is a NATIONAL ISSUE.

No Responsibility so people think they can get away with anything in our country.

We need stricter penalties and to re-enforce the death penalty.

We need a culture that embraces respect for society and authority as well as care for others.

Until we start making strides in the right direction, these issues are going to continue.

The problem with your theory here of how crime is just so horrific and how these ancient civilizations struck fear into the hearts of criminals, is that it’s simply not true.

You live in the safest time to be alive. Crime is near historically low levels.

I don't believe it. Allegedly you've argued high profile cases. I don't believe that either. You're way too much of a brazen political hack. Trumps a crook for sure but he seems to be able to legally live in your head rent free.

She thought being “woke” would spare her.


LaPere co-founded and led EcoMap, a company that claims to digitize ecosystems with its proprietary technology. She was a Forbes 30 Under 30 award recipient in 2023 in the social impact category.
Ecomap Technologies is also noted for its woke principles. As the New York Post notes, LaPere proudly boasted on her LinkedIn page that the company is “50% female, 50% people of color.”
