I think the amount of tax dollars wasted in that city is significant. Why keep throwing good money after bad?You don’t think losing Shelby County revenues would hurt?
You think you’d be able to jettison Memphis and keep Germantown & Collierville? Not likely…I think the amount of tax dollars wasted in that city is significant. Why keep throwing good money after bad?
I could be persuaded to keep Collierville, Germantown, Cordova, and Lakeland for a player to be named later and cash.
Oh and also, the original comment was tongue in cheek. So no need to get all twisted up over it.
Memphis was once a gem of the South. It has an incredible history being ground zero for the most popular art form in world history. Memphis began the decline into its current state when LBJ passed the “War on Poverty” which decimated the black family as was intended.
I’ve seen plenty of Cops episodes filmed in Memphis.Memphis has its issues. Many of which are self inflicted by the leaders they've elected. However, they have absolutely been screwed over many times by the state government in Nashville. Here's some examples
A. The State offered incentives to film the show "Nashville" in Nashville. Shows about Memphis have only offered once. And that was to film a show about Elvis in NASHVILLE.
B. The State offered Gibson money to move its facility out of Memphis to Nashville.
C. When FedEx tried to repurchase the Gibson facility, they publicly threatened to move out because the state was putting up hurdles they've never done for any other company.
D. Nike delayed the construction of its large DC here in Memphis because the state was behind in making agreed upon road repairs.
If you talk to those in economic development, this is the tip of the iceberg.
That could be said about the entire black community. We survived Jim Crow but couldn't get over socialism, feminism and CIA drug war.Memphis was once a gem of the South.
