It became personal once he got away and ran IMO and got even more personal when he continued not to comply (could definitely argue they didn’t give him a chance the second time). Those 5 officers could’ve got him to the ground and cuffed him with minimum force used (trust me I’ve been in those situations). At the end of the day those officers took it personal and wanted to teach that guy a lesson and for that they’ll be in prison for a very long time.

From what I saw, he only ran after being shoved to the ground, hit, and pepper sprayed. He seemed compliant and was doing what they asked of him until they escalated it.
