I’ve followed it for a while, as I lived in big ten country a bit. I always found that situation fascinating and have felt really bad for a great fanbase having to watch that garbage and be held hostage by Daddy’s boy due to unchecked nepotism.Okay, you are the most informed Vols fan I’ve found when it comes to Iowa football.
Respect
Quite the contrary imo. That’s why, as a fan of football, I have hated the situation with Brian Ferentz. They robbed young men on that team, especially the defense, of something great, by letting Brian stick around. They would have been much more competitive against PSU and Michigan with a competent offense. A defense can’t do it all for 4 quarters. 1 of those losses (Minnesota) is a sure W with an even average offense. PSU also had a horrid offense so if Iowa had an offense they could have been a little more competitive in that one. Punting on every possession isn’t going to get it done against many teams, but they won 10 that way, which is almost miraculous. They didn’t beat anyone, really, but all you can do is play the teams on your schedule. We aren’t in position to play the “who did they beat?” card when our best win is Kentucky. (Maybe A&M, depending on who you ask)10-3 but, you know, we suck according to most here.
It really is a shame. I think Iowa has been objectively championship level in 2 of 3 phases of the game, and the HC moron of a son has put historically bad offenses to pair with it.I’ve followed it for a while, as I lived in big ten country a bit. Yep, those scores in their losses against teams like Michigan and PSU can be misleading. The game is different when a team knows you can’t move the ball. It hamstrings everything. There are some average teams with average offenses that gave Michigan , Ohio State, and Penn State a challenge. Not saying Iowa wins those games, but the games would certainly be played differently and be competitive. It really is a shame. If he could have just gotten us to a top 70 offense I think Iowa would have made the CFP one of the last three years.
So he's working for nothing until a better job shows up? (drawing the buyout like Butch?)That whole situation was strange. Brian was not allowed to report to Kirk due to Iowa's nepotism policy. Brian was supervised by the AD. The AD fired him, but let him hang around. I can think of many sons of coaches that worked for their fathers, but other than the Bowden boys or Shane Beamer, I have a hard time thinking of any that had real success.
