Criticism of trump over Puerto Rico.

Is it really supporting when they're our territories?

Uh, yeah. Just like we supported Texas, Louisiana and Florida.

By support I’m talking about relief and supplies. Of course nothing can drive there, we can only get things there by air and sea, which takes much longer. PR isn’t the only place we’re sending things. We’ve been flying non-stop to several places in the Caribbean.

You don’t realize how obliterated that island is and how long it takes to get things there and around.

"This is an island, surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water."

I've always felt let that the ultimate responsibility falls with the people that live in these places. People just throw up their hands and want federal dollars. You live in Puerto Rico, Florida, etc. The risk of hurricanes is real. It's not a "black swan" event. So prepare for them and deal with them. The fed govt supplements when they fall short and clearly in the case of PR that is happening big time. Not a time to try and score cheap political shots

Well, having complimented him yesterday I have to say now that he's blowing it, insulting the mayor like that. Just not necessary.

We’ve been working 24/7 here for about a month now and have been supporting PR and VI. We’re a hub for supplies. What gets lost is ease of relief or support.

For instance, this story..

http://www.krem.com/mobile/article/...eorgia-to-assist-in-irma-relief/293-473019849

Utility companies can drive the 2500 miles in their vehicles to help restore power (and other things) in addition to supplies being driven in, etc, here in the states. PR has to have ANY help flown or shipped in. It takes time and is limited to what you can do in a timeframe.

PR got destroyed and is a total mess, some people want and demand instant relief. You just can’t do it. Planes have been flying supplies in and people out non-stop. Ships can get there but distribution on the island itself is limited.

Well, not much can be done for those people in the short-term other than make sure you get them some food and water. Even getting the grid up is probably going to take months, if not years.

If its really bad down there, there is no short term fix. Let me put it this way, my brother made it back into town to check on his stuff after Katrina... we're talking 4-5 days after landfall. People were walking down the street covered in mud begging for water. And they don't live on an island. If its as bad as they claim, its a many year project just to get back up to normal let alone they are on an island. Those people are going to have to toughen up or take a boat to the mainland. I think I rolled into Louisiana 10 days after landfall, hundreds of electric company trucks were pouring in... 100s I saw. The police had no power and no way of communicating where I was.

It was like being in Mad Max. They say no man is an island... well if you live on one you are.

Those people better start thinking outside the box because the chances of that place being rebuild anytime soon is ZERO. If you have relatives there -- they better come to the mainland or the alternative start having a different mindset. Lets say I send a 1000s of ships with supplies, you know what is going to happen right now... they'll be sitting at port and eventually will have to come back because nothing can be done with all those supplies right now... its a slow grind to rebuild. Let say you ship in 50,000 people to work -- where do they live?

Puerto Rico might not be on their own but its going to be a slow grind.

Well, that didn't last long...

Look, when the island had infrastructure problems to begin with, you know the response is going to be that much harder. And furthermore, FEMA and other responders are there to work for the local emergency management agencies, not the other way round.

Regardless, PR is a third world country the US flag happens to be flying over. And the geographic location is going to make it far harder to get help. Even you can see this...I hope.

So do you agree with the sentiments in Princess Tiny Hands' twitter storm this morning?

It's not being well received by just about everyone.

Members of the Administration are leaking information on the response in Puerto Rico to the press.

I completely agree. That's why I said the criticism is undeserved.

But that doesn't mean he had to insult the mayor. No one is putting any stock in what she says. They understand she's in a desperate situation. Criticizing their debt situation or implying they are lazy or it's just plain their own fault serves no purpose.

I believe during a response of this nature, especially with such widespread devastation, politics needs to be put to the side. And then you have things like this:

[twitter]https://twitter.com/DavidBegnaud/status/913088574983168000[/twitter]

Which should beg the question of why she is bashing the federal response when supplies are sitting at her ports waiting to be distributed.

Let's get real, Dink. You and I both know Trump is gonna Trump. But in this case? He very well could be right.

I like how that video cuts off right when any commentary as to why that is the case begins.

I'm not buying that it's just sitting there and people are dying to support a narrative.
