Crompton looks like A.J. Suggs

Let's remember that despite the hype and expectations, Crompton is what he is . . . a freshman undergoing a baptism by fire.

Did you watch the game?

Crompton did not beat us. I can remember atleast 8 dropped passes...likely more.

McFadden and offensive line of the Hogs is what beat us.

I remember a couple of drops, but not that many. I also remember Crompton being way off on alot of passes, whether it be because of pressure in his face or just flat out bad throws. But he's a freshman. It is what it is.

f1ip- I don't think he is the reason we lost. I agree that AR would have beat us on our best day. I just think Crompton looks like AJ out there.....lost and confussed. If I was a big time recruit at WR or OL and my choices of players to play with are Stafford, Tebow, Mustain, Periloux (sp) or Crompton.......I would put Crompton at the bottom of that list.

Did you happen to notice that unlike all those other guys, it was the first game he's ever started and it was on the road in the SEC against what is about to be a top 10 team? Not saying he had a good night, but it's the first full game he's gotten.

In my opinion, he got his first start against the SEC Champ..

TE had atleast 3 himself.

Not fair to judge Crompton on this. Being thrown against 2 tough defenses to start your career, isn't exactly the way to get broken in.

I couldn't tell early on if Crompton was just holding the ball too long or if we really were trying to go down the field that much. He had some drops, but he also was late several times.

But Ainge will be the QB next year and the WR's will probably remember that and check out the Ainge to Meachem numbers before making their decisions. Isn't Periloux 3rd string?

Yea, I am confused in my opinion about him. He has gotten a rough deal, playing tough defenses with no running game behind him. But I also feel he should have looked better than he has. I see Brett Favre disease written all over him. He loves to rifle the ball, even on short passes and also likes to throw into double coverage. Hopefully he will get better, but he has been there over a year. I guess I was hoping for more consistency.

One thing I think we need to get out of our heads is the notion that Crompton can do serious damage with his legs. He's fairly agile and will run for the occasional first down, but I really don't think he's that kind of QB.

geezzz...it was his first ever start as a freshman and it was on the road at night against another defense that was just fired up. There were a lot of time where again, our WR or TE's just dropped the ball and couldn't help our freshman QB out. He finished 16-34 160ish yards 2 TD's and 1 INT when he got drilled. Don't expect him to be Peyton Manning right now...he's still learning a lot

Peyton Manning was pretty sensational in his second year at UT. Not that I expect Crompton to do that. Just pointing out that Peyton was good as a young starter. Of course, he is rare one.

I think someone needs to go pull some old A.J. Suggs tapes and take another look. Suggs had trouble throwing the ball more then 20 yds downfield.

It seemed like Crompton had little to no pocket presence or an internal clock.

Comes with experience, I guess.

I posted something like that earlier. It was scary the times that he would get hit by a rusher coming from his right side where he supposedly could see him coming. It was almost like they told him to stand in the pocket at all costs.
