Croom

Big difference in blocking a CB or safety, or blocking down on an OLB from the slot or WR position and lining up head to head with a DE and/or being asked to block him or block down on a DT like he would be asked to do at TE. What Helm and Wolf are doing at TE vs what Croom/Pearson/Malone are doing at WR is a world of difference.

I agree that it's not gonna matter much if he's 1st or 2nd string WR, he'll still be in the rotation and see a ton of snaps.

This is true. The TE in this offense is used as an H-back/full-back on a lot of the running plays. They have to pull quite a bit and motion into all sorts of positions pre-snap, and then they will potentially have to block (or help block) any of the positions in the defensive front 7. Croom is and should remain at WR.

Good point. I guess he'll be playing exclusively on the outside? Other wise he would be a tight end? Or do you think he will ever shift down in the passing game to create mismatches?

I hope so. But they had him working with the second team yesterday. I'm not sure he is going to start with North, Malone, and Pearson out there. He'll see some time. But those 3 seem to have come in here practicing like starters. This is his second year in the system. If it doesn't click for him this year. He might fade down the depth chart.

Meachem only started 2 games prior to his final year on the hill.

I think all the WRs are being asked to learn the slot as well.

This. And that is really the only way to do it. I can't remember who it was that said it. Either North or Croom I think. But it is very important to know why you are running the route you are running. And to know that 'why' you have to know what everyone else is doing also

Does Croom remind anybody else of Ashlon Jefferys when he was at USCe?

Not yet. Alshon was a big, aggressive, physical playmaker who caught everything they threw him at SCar. Haven't seen anything like that out of Croom so far.

The CROOMSTER isn't going to fade anywhere my friend.

He's too smart, too big, too strong and too talented to do aything but get much better.

He has 3 more years on the hill and when he puts it all together he'll become a top target and extremely hard to defend with his size and strength.

He'll be right in the 2 deep rotation with all the other really good WR's we have and we all know that many times the QB is always looking for the big target and that's what he's going to become.

Just sit back the next couple of years and enjoy watching Croom perfect his skills my friend.

It looked like Croom had two TD receptions in the scrimmage today. Can't wait to see it when it counts!

And dragged half the team behind him while they were trying to bring him down. Kid's a HOSS

Really looking forward to seeing Croom, North, Pearson and Malone all on the field together this fall and all the opposing LB's/DB's tears :cray:

Never forget that we have what some would call "backup" WR's and TE's that will surprise some people when they get their chance on the field too.

I look forward to seeing those guys make plays too when it's least expected.

I still think somebody will breakout this year that most on here are counting out.

Looks like he is coming into his own at WR. Two deep TD's in scrimage, one outside shoulder catch and one he dragged about 3 into the endzone from about the five. Mr. Croom gonna get his this yr. Can't wait to see him meet someone over the middle.

With the speed Butch wants to play with and the amount for 3-4 wide sets, does it really matter if you are 1st or 2nd string? You are still gonna see the field quiet often in either roll.

And does the title really matter for Croom? Put him outside and the defense will treat him like a WR, put him inside and they will treat him like a TE. It doesn't matter what we call him.

:good!:

I nose around in here from time to time, but not too often anymore. :)

Understood.

I do believe your boy with consistency brought on by a stable coaching staff is now READY. Looking to see a Croom bloom this season.
