I don’t either…. A few years back a team wore a small cross on their jersey/helmet to honor a dead teammate that was a Christian…. Someone got a lawyer and filed suit against the school.
About 7 years ago the high school I went to played another school on 9/11 and they did a special ceremony pre game and had a prayer. Some idiot went to the school board, put it in the paper etc.... now pre game prayers aren't allowed around where I live because of it.

I’ll never understand how something like that could offend somebody
Not a fan of this. The same people celebrating putting a cross on the mound would be angry if they put a crescent and star on the mound for the month of Ramadan. Neither offends me and I respect and admire each religion's time of worship and their adherent's love of such time; however, secular institutions should not put religious symbols on their fields and it shouldn't be celebrated when it does happen, even if it is your religion's symbol on the field.

You’re making a declarative, unilateral statement…so I’ll attempt to keep pace. IF a pitcher put a crescent and star on the mound, the same contingent decrying the Cross would flail their social media arms in support. We’ll revisit when the first Sikh starts whilst wearing their turban.

95% of people who are quick to shriek "freedom of religion!!!!" at every opportunity really mean "freedom for my religion" or "freedom of religion for this 'oppressed minority' I am virtue signaling support for."

You’re assuming what a group of people would do, and I don’t think you’re right. As long as you’re not disrespecting things I love, you can do what you want with yours

So you think protesting something is showing respect? Or, displaying the cross is showing disrespect?

If I was a black american muslim I could see kneeling as showing respect for people gunned down unfairly by police and I could see the cross as disrespect to my religion among others on state funded property. There are other ways to see things that aren't Christian white male views. People love to live in echo chambers these days.

Do you really think that any school would not allow another religions symbol on campus because they didn’t want to offend Christians? That ain’t happening..

As a society, we should never stop trying to improve ourselves by providing opportunities for all to succeed. We are far from perfect, but we have made great strides in the past 50+ years. I don't think we should rest on the accomplishments that we have made thinking we have finished the work, but it would be nice for folks that love to complain about our nation and society to at least acknowledge the progress that we have made.

The next step is to stop putting ourselves in little boxes and start thinking of each other as people. Not sub-groups of people.

I think they should not allow religious symbols because of the separation of church and state, not due to offending people although I could see how someone would be offended seeing as how ridiculous people take religion.
