The Associated Press: Cuban Restrictions Eased by Raul Castro

And...

Fund aimed at Cuba investment grows; will list in London | Funds | News | Reuters

Berger said the oversubscription of shares at a time of gloom on financial markets showed that investors were really interested in Cuba.

Steps to liberalize Cuba's state-dominated economy have begun under President Raul Castro, who succeeded his brother Fidel on Feb. 24 as the first new Cuban leader in half a century.

CEIBA's management is not betting on Communist Cuba opening up to capitalism any time soon, though the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Havana would likely result in a large increase in the fund's asset value.

The Associated Press: Raul's Cuba Tweaks Housing, Wage Rules

HAVANA (AP) — Thousands of Cubans will be able to get title to state-owned homes under regulations published Friday — a step that might lay the groundwork for broader housing reform.

The measure was the first legal decree formally published since Raul Castro succeeded his brother Fidel as president in February. It comes a day after state television said the government also will do away with wage limits, allowing state employees to earn as much they can as an incentive to productivity.

Together, housing and wage restrictions have been among the things that bother Cubans the most about their socialist system.

Making a bold prediction right now if this trend continues. US will lift sanctions on Cuba in 12 months...

The housing law was published a day after a commentator on state television said the government also will do away with wage limits, allowing state employees to earn as much they can as an incentive to productivity. Economic commentator Ariel Terrero said a resolution approved in February but not yet published will remove the salary caps designed to promote social and economic equality.

"For the first time, it is clearly and precisely stated that a salary does not have a limit, that the roof of a salary depends on productivity," said Terrero, adding that he doesn't see it as a violation of the Cuban socialism.

i would imagine that the investment return in cuba would be amazing for at least a short time. that market is basically untouched.

Yea, and the cigars are real good too.

No, what I was asking is if I went to Florida, passed by the old folks homes, the jort wearing trailer park crowds, avoided the swamp on my left and right, tried not to run into natives with lances, and finally arrived in Miami (minus the hyper color t-shirt) would it be about the same? Or do I need to buy a skiff and check out the real deal?

Would you say his concern for personal safety was equal to that of visiting Jamica?
