Cuban/Mavericks Stop Playing National Anthem

FYI, RJD is a vet too.

I’m actually not but I’ve done a lot of work overseas in areas of combat, been deployed as a contractor, etc.. I’ve been involved with some hostilities.

I understand the patriotism as much as any non-vet could I suppose. My point though is the anthem isnt relevant (yes, relevant) to a sporting event. I have zero issue with it being played or not being played, and honestly, if players are gonna make a political statement by not standing for it or large groups of people will protest or whatever, then I would rather it not be played. I respect their first amendment, but at the same time, F them.

Pretty much sums up how I feel too. If we all can’t act like adults then just remove the conflicting situation. I’m not pushing forced compliance, if people don’t want to stand without being demonstrative then stay in the locker room. That’s all. If people can’t do that then just take the divisive item out of the situation.

He is a businessman making business decisions.
This is a true statement. And I am a consumer making one as well. When enough of 'me' affect 'his' bottom line, he will change his tune. I'm good with that. I'm sure he is too. He doesn't care what I think until he does.

That's called cancel culture.

I certainly dont want to force anyone to do something like stand for the anthem. Who is pushing for forced standing during the anthem?

Also, from a manufacturing perspective, which is what I am familiar with, removing the anthem is not solving the problem. It is shifting it.

I know it can seem others are trying to erase our shared American pride. But they cannot. Our pride is found in something deeper than a national anthem. It is bigger than a flag. We should be able to maintain that source of pride even without overt and unnecessary symbolism.

I sincerely appreciate your service. I appreciate your Americanism. You have nothing to prove to anybody.
I wanted to get home to a keyboard so I could respond to this better than with fat fingers on a phone.

Thank you sir. And I mean that.

I wasn't fishing for a compliment, but I do appreciate it. I don't feel deserving of any special thank yous however. I did my time in the military, got a million dollar education that has allowed me to be very successful in civilian life. I did not get shot at. I have a group of friends that I go to the games with and when the Anthem is played, I hold my hand over my heart like everybody else. I do not render the salute because frankly I don't feel worthy to do that. My friends give me a funny look sometimes when I say that, but honestly I don't. Maybe it is because I feel like I got more out of the military than I put in. The guys that lost limbs or worse are the ones deserving of that honor.

I wish all the 'who cares if they burn the flag', and "I don't give a **** about the Anthem" guys could experience SERE school. I still get choked up when I think about the last day in POW camp, and that was make believe. Any of you guys that have done it know exactly what I am talking about.

It's an erosion of our country nationalism.

We can debate the reasons, how the military paid for it, etc but at the end of the day it's just another step towards globalism.

Eventually no one will say the pledge, no one will know the anthem and our country will have no individualism.

It is hilarious to see the defenders of the NBA and NFL on matters such as this. Each leagues logo (branding) is red, white, and blue. It isnt a coincidence.

I used to get free tickets to Magic games a while ago. I went a few times, nothing memorable outside of the female cheerleaders and some sad old Turkish dudes with escorts.

You should have become pals with the Turkish guy and embraced his entourage. The Magic haven’t been good since Shaq was there in the 90s. The Orlando Magic now are complete dog sh!t.

Him and his buddy left to get hot dogs or something and his hookers escorts jumped up a row and started chatting up my friend and I. They came back, yelled at them, then grabbed em and left. Didn't want to join, smelled an honor killing close by.

This is a dumb comparison because it's not something that actually divides people. This forum is full of you and your cohorts losing your minds over flag etiquette. Get rid of the problem and hopefully the division goes away.
Maybe it does offend me.... maybe it offends others.... the anthem is a tradition just like Rocky Top..... and Rocky Top portrays mountain folks as murderous alcoholics....... so F u and the guys that think the anthem should be pulled.... I should get what I want if you guys do.
The real issue isn’t really about flag etiquette either.... it’s more about mushy ass poons thinking it’s ok to throw the culture out the window.... you’re willing to turn the US of America into the US of Mexico/Guatemala/Honduras so you can buy your cheap sht.... incremental steps bro

No it’s removing it or at least removing the opportunity for it to manifest. The problem is you cannot force people to act like considerate adults they have to want to act like considerate adults. You can force children or you can remove the children from the opportunity. Which was Cuban’s solution basically. Remove the children from the opportunity.

I understand a lot of players want to make a social justice statement. I have no desire to participate in their spectacle. They have no desire to not act out in their spectacle. So remove the opportunity for the spectacle

You're so entitled.

This is Cuban's decision and nobody else's

It just doesnt solve a problem. It gives into the desire of some and shifts anger to others. That isnt problem solving. The flag and anthem are literally not the issues here.

An absolutely stupid response. They should respect Cuban’s decision and state each team has the respond how they see fit.

Business decision. I know in the NFL people get fined for silly things like how they wear their socks or something like that. Why? Because the business wants uniformity in regards to their brand.

That's the problem. Those that don't care about the meaning.. primarily those that have not sacrificed a part of their life in service to this country... have no ****ing clue how much it means to those that did. I was fortunate in that most of my time in the Navy was in peacetime. I KNOW I would feel much different had I actually been shot at by real hostiles.

Relevance. Interesting choice of a word.

But then again, Tom Brady and Lebron James are what we consider 'heroes'. I shouldn't find it surprising.
Grow up
